So today was founder's day. It's the day where the faculty get to parade around in our regalia for the freshman so they can 'meet' us and get some historical pride (yes, they force them to come to this for credit because why else would they?)

THey decided to have it outside today because it was so beautiful. Okay it was. It was cloudless, warm, sunny...and did I mention sunny? Yeah like in fiery molten sunny? And we're in black polyester robes. This was an exercise in torture. We were sweaty, sun burned, stinky and sick by the time we could escape.

I'm one of the few who read the whole email and KNEW it was outside. I wore something lightweight and brought my sunglasses (but grabbed the wrong ones and had the Ed Hardy ones with the flaming skulls! HA!) J. spent the hour and a half continually hitting me because ants kept divebombing me from the maple tree we were under. L. succintly put it as 'i sweat less biking 10 miles to work'. It was just that miserable. I was lightheaded and nauseated in class afterwards. Whee fun.

However our presidents past sound like they could have been headmaster at hogwarts. Ransom Dunn, Albanus Avery Moulton, Alphus Christensen, Clodus Smith....

A side effect of boiling my brain in the sun was to come home and clean my living room like whoa. I turned up several Writer's Digest's that I have yet to read. I had no idea they were doing makeshift 'writers' workshops'. I thought I'd pass along the exercises since so many of us would probably like them. I will be editing a few of them since well some of it is just odd. Here's one

1. Ready over a copy of your latest short story or novel and boil the piece down to a one-sentence summary

2. having done so are there elements of the story that don't appear to contribute to this plot? If so think about what would happen if you cut them

3. if you can't summarize your story in a single sentence consider the following questions. Have I established my protagonize and his desires clearly enough? Do i have more than one plot going? From among them which is the most compelling.

(i wonder what we're meant to do if we feel the subplots ARE important)

so let me sum up Machiavelli Moon. Maddalena and Sulien, two vampires and Caksi, a werewolf policeman have to find out who shot Caksi's brother and is out to kill Sulien and Maddalena.

So...i can do it. And I think I DO need to remove Sulien's daughter from the mix.
