I have a sax and I'm ready to come out of the stands and beat you to death with it. That was my usual reaction to any time the cheerleaders would pester the band. God I hated them. So why am I bringing it up 24 years after graduation (God how did THAT happen?)
Because it's Homecoming today at my college. Whoodedoo. Only on Wed. the dean said we'd better make an effort to decorate like other buildings did and the president said she'd like to see some spirit. Me, I used that as an excuse to go to work in jeans and a t-shirt. Only I didn't have any with the school sports team, just the silly orientation shirts and the international day one. I wore the latter. Our colors are red and white so could we please be making RED shirts with white letters instead of the other way around. I'm the only prof in my dept that did. Well if the president came around at least I LOOKED like I had spirit.
But I never have. I can count on one hand the times I've willing bought school spirit shit. In H.S. I had band t-shirts and band jackets (to make it easier for band geeks to be spotted and humilated or so I always assumed) and only bought my graduation T-shirt.In undergrad, I had a band shirt, just one. I DID buy a couple in medical school because it said medical school on it and damn it I was proud of that achievement. When I went back to school at UCF, I did buy a stuffed KNight but only because he was cool. I might have bought the pegasus t-shirts but they discontinued them the year I got there in lieu of a much uglier blander UCF lettering style.
But it's warmer than holy hell for them. Mid-Nov and shorts and t-shirts are still being worn. How odd.
It's Friday the 13th. Usually a good day for me. This time it's a little dull but at least I got stuff written. I guess the best thing that happened was Dollhouse got what it deserved. I know I have friends who liked it but I found it misogynistic and hateful to women and it ruined my trust in Whedon's judgment so I shed no tears for its demise. It should have happened before a month went by.
