I sometimes miss small town papers
Dec. 2nd, 2021 10:38 pmBecause it's actually relatively hard to get local news any more. I went to Jackson to wash clothes and hit the gym. I decided to mix it up go get a coffee to drink in the car and write for 30 minutes (the wash cycle) because I was late getting up there (the place closes at 4) thanks to a student who was supposed to show up for a test every day this week but has an excuse why she hasn't. and then go to the gym and to Kroger's to pick up something. (as I usually ride 20 minutes so it's perfect, 5 minutes to the Y, work out 5 minutes back to the laundromat.
Well Idrive up the street thinking huh, the funeral home has luminieres everywhere and what will obviously be a live action creche how strange. I get to the Spot on Main (my coffee shop) and it has a sign on the door open til 7 for the first thursday stuff (first thursday is a town wide event and I didn't know they had brought it back post-covid because they think we are) So I go to the Y like I usually do, go back to the laundromat the back way.
When I come back out on the main street again I see why there was that creche. This first thursday was the children's choir, animals in the creche, horse drawn carriages and an adorable trolley car (where they got that I have no idea). Now I would be leery about being in a carriage or trolley with all the maskless fools BUT they also had a multi-street, multi store cookie walk.
I would have liked that. I've done the chocolate walks. It was nearly 70 today so it would have been perfect. Here's the thing. I go to the library every week. It has a community board. I go to the Spot on Main every week. It has a community board. I go to the Y. It needs a community board. The library AND Spot on Main were part of the cookie walk. NO ONE had this on their fucking boards. I couldn't get tickets now. Oh well but that is sort of a bummer.
The point of first thursday is to drive traffic to our local stores. It works. I found places I didn't know existed thanks to the chocolate walks. Also on the way past the over priced soap store I found out you can donate breast milk (for free soap!) and that left me wondering is that screened as heavily as blood? A lot of things can pass in breast milk. (Why I'm wondering is anyone's guess. That is such a moot point for me).
Rocket the indoor-outdoor cat usually isn't in at night. So I was getting ready to wash my hair and I guess he saw me going in and out of the bathroom. He decided to wait for me behind the shower curtain. I reached in and turned it on without looking. Oops.
