Feeling a little heartbroken and angry

So today I stayed late to help talk to a student about going to medical school (no worries for this student who could have graduated h.s. and college at the same time) Somehow we got on the topic of being female in medical school. The other young faculty member (who is her actual advisor) is engaged to a woman in her last year of medical school.

I said at least hopefully it'll be better for you than all the flak I got for daring to be a medical doctor and female. He shook his head and said not according to G it's not.

I stared and in a broken little voice said 'but I'm 30 years older than your fiance.' HOW the fuck is this still going on and honestly it's NOT the men. It's other women. My biggest troubles were with nurses who didn't like answering to a woman doctor and his fiancee is facing that now too.

Dammit women do better. Support each other. Not this. Why tear down women doctors? I don't get this. The student popped up with her family member who is a nurse and all the shit male patients give her. That too. I got all that too but you know oddly that bothered me less (that I expect men to be gross and horrible to me is telling too but felt like less of a betrayal. )

The other thing that made me mad and sad was what's going on with internship/med school applications etc (I put money into a go fund me for a friend's psych internship applications. They can't discriminate any more so what they're doing is jacking up the price of these things to hundreds of dollars for one and thousands if you want options. They want to make these things a legacy degree (preferrably white legacy assuming that by eliminating the lower economic levels you'll take out most women and PoC). So if you see a go fund me for medical school applications, shoot them my way so I can get eyes on it for them because this is shit.
