Writerly Ways
Nov. 13th, 2022 10:15 pmSo the writing isn't going so well. But at least I did isolate one of the issues last year (as I'm trying to finish last year's nano now). I had the big reveal about Howell WAY too early so today I tried adding in more there to slow down that reveal. Also I need more villain time.

18000 / 50000 words. 36% done! ahahaha look at that word count.
Snippet - Grace and Al waited on the porch for them and their eyes lit up upon seeing them. Yeah, that has to be for Howell. Dan didn’t blame them. Howell was gorgeous. They waved.
“How’s the rest of your day treating you, Howell?” Grace asked.
“It’s been tidy.”
They all looked at him. Dan doubted that meant the same thing in Wales than it did here.
“His roomie is already busting out the pot,” Dan said.
“And this one almost went toe to toe with some frat boy.” Howell jerked his thumb at Dan as Javier poked his head out the door. He frowned at Dan.
“Tony. He was wasting no time in the Chi recruitment drive and decided now was the time to harass me.” He shrugged. “He’s an idiot.”
“No doubt. I didn’t want to ask where the walls have ears but what did you tangle with?” Howell nodded his chin at Dan who cupped his hand over his belly.
“Two hellhounds and a shadow gather demon,” Javier supplied.
Howell widened his eyes. “I knew your team mixed it up with something bad and you lost your friend but damn. A shadow gather? I’m surprised any of you walked away.”
“They beat it back with such efficiency,” Javier said, beckoning them inside. “But they don’t quite see it that way.”
“Hard to I’m sure. I’m impressed.” Howell walked past Javier.
“You’ve been in some hellish fights too if what I’ve heard is right,” Dan said, following him in.
“I’m afraid to know what you’ve heard.
Howell’s expression lost all its humor. He didn’t like that Dan had went poking about but Dan didn’t care. This was his team, his family and he wasn’t letting anyone come barging in without learning about them.
“I’d rather hear it from you.” Dan gave him that much. There was no sense in antagonizing him but he did regret not sharing what he had learned with Al or Grace. There hadn’t been time.
“Where do you want me to start?”
