Writerly Ways
Oct. 15th, 2023 10:26 pmSitting on a bleacher watching pig races while Cotton Eyed Joe plays as I eat fresh donuts and sip cider with mud and horse manure on my shoes, wondering how is this my life now and thinking it ain't so bad. Rural fantasy is on the rise to the point I've read two books in the last 8 weeks with almost identical plots and I'm on the third right now.
That said, I like the idea of urban fantasy moving to the country. My upcoming novel is rural paranormal romance. Even though my monster hunters thing is retro 80s, it's also rural setting. I've lived most of my life in the country. I prefer it. I'm glad to see it's being used as a background for things for other than Amish mystery/romance or folk horror, not that they are bad (love folk horror)
I had more I wanted to say on the topic but it's getting late and my brain is fuzzy so let me ask, anyone have rural fantasy (or folk horror) you'd like to share.
