How often does that happen? (Also no writerly ways til tomorrow I am beat). the day started off blah as I wasn't feeling too well but I checked out of the hotel and started on my next adventure:
Loveland Castle Here me and my GPS get into it again. It keeps taking to dead ends in a suburb (and a rather pricey one at that) As I pull over and put int Loveland castle vs the addy and it did the same thing. this time - as I'm getting annoyed - I see a sign pointing to the castle back the way I just came past the no outlet. I see a local walking and ask her. She laughs and says yeah you have to go to the no outlet and down the hill. Ah so the castle parking lot is the no outlet...then WHY isn't there a sign pointing down next to the no outlet??? And it's a freaking goat path straight down a hill that my SUV actually slid down because the grade was so bad.
If you don't want to read the whole link above, Harry Andrews died in WWI from menigitis but when he didn't actually die and the military re-alived him his fiancee had married someone else and he pretty much gave up on women and stayed in Europe studying castles. He came home and started building his own. He dredged all these rocks from the little miami river stream beds and he MADE the freaking mortar and bricks by hand.
He also believed that America was getting too immoral (guess the 1920s were too wild for him) and wanted to recreate the knights of the round table that were loyal to the 10 commandments (I think he was a strange, probably sad/lonely character) and got at least 100 knights to his knights of the golden trail movement. He lived there until his second death in his 90s.
It was a labor of love. I do have pictures (maybe tomorrow or tuesday)
From there I did go back to historic downtown Loveland. OMG this place (and its bike trail) are so damn adorable. And CROWDED because it was a gorgeous 70 degree day. So many cyclists. So many dog walkers. I loved the basset hound who was singing the song of his people. I went to Teak, got spicy fried noodles with tofu, delicious. They also had a frogman sushi roll (Maybe next time) and went to Graeter's for ice cream (it's an Ohioan staple)
I think I need to set a story in historic loveland. Maybe they can live in the Loveland Station luxury apts
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQdq0L4G-ZQ&t=3sFrom there it was off to a place I've never heard of before. I've wanted to hit Loveland castle since I first heard of it in the 90s but
Promont House was something I spotted as things to do around the froggy fest. I lucked out. It's only open like 2 sundays a month and this was one of them. It reminded me of the Anchorage in Marietta only unlike that one which had been gutted, this was kept in pristine shape. I'm in love with it.
John Pattison, one of Ohio's governors owned it at one point (but he died within months of becoming gov) Again a lot of photos coming. I saw things I've never seen before in all these houses I've been in, like the tool they used to tighten rope beds. This place had freaking closets (show offs) a tiffany fixature, and a hair wreath shaped in a heart.
From there I went to Jungle Jim's because I haven't spent nearly enough this weekend. There's a new boba/pho place next to it but my stomach was iffy so I did the LaRosa pizza for a known quantity but I did get the tea. It was some of the best I've had.
I'm home. I'm tired. But it was fun.
