I'm proud of my students
Apr. 14th, 2017 10:08 pmYesterday was the RISE presentations, where we showcase all the student research (or original compositions for the music/art/creative writing students). My student presented her research and another student who I've been helping off and on for some time (she started at the college in h.s. when she was 14, she is so amazingly bright) gave a lecture on her research she's doing in collaboration with Ohio State U (which is about all I can say about it). For the first time there were awards given. The school of science gave two (voted on by the surgeon working with me for my gallbladder, she's also on the board of trustees for the uni) one to the girl I've been helping, one to a wildlife student and one to the brother of my research student (they're both working with me next fall). And my student won the school of art and science award for how well she presented her research. And the student who worked with OSU also won the president's award for how amazing her work was.
I might bitch about my students but we do have some who are just amazing and I am proud of them.
Today should have been good and it was at first. I didn't have to get up at 6 Am because we have off Good Friday (when Easter Monday would be SO MUCH more helpful). I stayed in my PJs until I would normally be done with work. Then I went to the laundromat and library. Yes I DID buy books at the library sale, including three books on disc that probably are all scratched up. But it was 84 outside and the library didn't have the a/c on so I overheated and it was all downhill from there.
The wash machine didn't spin out fully. I had to wring out clothes and of course they didn't fully dry. Sigh. By then I had to change my plans of going hiking in Lake Katherine because I had overheated far too much and was exhausted by it. (I think I'll go tomorrow. I was going to go to a place in Hocking HIlls I hadn't been to before but I just remembered I have edits to do. OMG way to make a terrible first impression if I'm late so maybe I'll go to the Lake tomorrow since that won't take 4 hours out of my day like Rock House would.)
I drove around Jackson killing time because I wanted to go to Arch and Eddies and 4 pm is too early for dinner for me. And it let me see the houses for sale. NOPE, just nope. I was literally itchy from anxiety seeing how close all the in-town houses are. I just don't want it. I'd rather drive 15 miles to get my groceries like I do now than live on top other houses.
My mood has sagged. I'm still not writing. I'm not counting blog posts.
And happy birthday to
