Too anxious to concentrate
Jun. 9th, 2005 05:53 pmSo I'll do meme's instead (beginning to think saying yes to the second interview was a mistake since I don't like two of the three classes I MIGHT be teaching. Damn greener grass, I just had to go over the fence to see it)
I know both
evil_little_dog and
bashipforever tagged me to do some of these memes

13. Pass the torch and tag five of your LJ friends! (if you want to do it, go for it)
List your six favorite songs. Then tag six other people
1. Piano Sonata #14 (Moonlight Sonata) by Ludwig Beethoven - I think this is just one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever. This quasi una fantasia was written (as legend has it) for a woman he loved and I think it shows. It’s a song that puts me at peace.
2. Night on Bald Mountain by Modeste Mussorgsky - Most of us know this song even if we don’t know the name. It’s quintessential Halloween music and it was written with witches competing to be Satan’s bride (yes, a negative stereotype but keep in mind when this was written) in mind. Mussorgsky thought it was his best work. No one else agreed sadly until modern times. Why is this song special to me? When I was in H.S. marching band, one year the teachers were on strike until Nov. The parents and students said to hell with that we were NOT missing out on football and band. We did all the choreography ourselves and for Halloween/homecoming we did THIS song. It was amazing. It was written up in newspapers all over the tristate area and we won marching competitions for it. Oh and I love it because it’s a great atmospheric piece
3. Swan Lake (the main theme, not sure of the notation) by Pyotr Tchaikovsky - Other than this is another beautiful piece of music it was the first thing I saw a man who was important for three years of my life dance in. Swan Lake ushered in a sophisticated twin alter ego in me. Mostly she’s gone now but occasionally she’s still there
4. In the Mood by Glenn Miller - Other than it’s a kick ass piece of swing music, this song has special meaning to me because it represents the pinnacle of my musical ‘career’ (no, I never actually tried it as a career but you know what I mean) George Bush the First’s inauguration and my jazz band was invited to the festivities. I got to play this solo at the Old Post Office (no, Mr. President wasn’t there but a lot of congressmen were). I got sick at the inauguration the day before (it rained) so I had a fever of 103 the next day when I had to play this. I think it burned out my inhibitions because I really got into it. The audience loved it. I was down with pneumonia for a two weeks when I got home.
5. We Shall Be Free by Garth Brooks - This was not a commercial success. In fact it was very controversial and a lot of people really hated it for all the reasons I love it. How dare Garth suggest we should be free to love whomever we chose? That just leads to interracial marriage and homosexuality. How dare Garth suggest we look past skin color and aim for one race ‘mankind’? How dare Garth suggest we be allowed to worship in any manner we chose? That just lets the heathens in. How dare he suggest that defeating poverty and cleaning up the environment should be important to us? Yes, it’s a preachy song but when you look at what he’s preaching, the freedom to love, the ending of prejudice, it’s really a beautiful song.
6. Losing My Religion by R.E.M. - I just have felt like this sometimes, like I’ve been bowled over by life or by a certain someone. I think we all have.
And runner up We’re Not Going to Take It by Twisted Sister - and yes I know you’re probably thinking Dana’s lost it. Why does this rate? We voted it our senior song for graduation and of course the faculty said no way. We, being the arrogant little teen aged shits that we were, managed to get it played anyhow. It’s a monument to being a know-it-all teen.
Total number of fandoms I like: I believe that would be eight
My first fandom ever: I got into Star Trek (original) and Star Wars at the same time in 1977
My most recent fandom: Probably X-Men. Yeah I’ve read the comic for 20 years but just started writing it recently. Given thought to A Series of Unfortunate Events but the writer base is way young and the amount of incest and pedophilia fic bothers me to be blunt.(and not I'm not saying don't write it. I don't care what you do. I just don't want to have to read it so I don't.)
Five fandoms that mean a lot to me. Elfquest (I met so many lifelong friends through this it has to be first. Heck I’ve known Evil Little Dog and Rahirah for twenty years now, just to date all of us), BtVS/AtS, Star Trek, Star Wars, X-Files
Tag five people go nuts.
