Okay this is way easy and fun. Given the overwhelming daddy issues in both shows I could be here for days. Here's one for nearly everyon on Buffy

Dawn – any time post S 6  Fatherless Child

She didn’t really have a father, at least not in the conventional sense.  Balls of energy masquerading as human weren’t really born. It did prompt questions on those long lonely nights waiting up to be sure her sister was coming back. What was she really? Where did she come from? Did Hank Summers think he was her father just as Joyce had defended her, cared for her as if she were real? If he did, why hadn’t he come to help her when Buffy had died? What kind of man was he? Dawn decided she didn’t need a father.

Faith – any time  Dreams of Dad

She never thought about her father much, not since she had gotten old enough to realize that her mom probably didn’t know who the man even was. But when she still had her innocence, Faith would look at men on the streets and imagine that maybe he was her daddy. He would come and make things right. Maybe he was a fireman or a cop or maybe a doctor. He would be handsome and kind. Some nights, she tried to forget he was probably a john who bought her mom for a bottle of whiskey and recapture the innocent musings.

Buffy – any time  Claiming Fathers

She drew the short stick when it came to dad’s. Buffy remembered a time when she loved her dad so much and all the fun they had. How he’d watch her on the ice and call her his princess. How had it gone so wrong? Did he cheat on her mom or is that something she just convinced herself of to relieve the guilt, the terror that she was the one who chased him away? Now when she thought of fathers, she pictured blue eyes behind glasses, and a smile surrounded by laugh lines. Dad spoke with an English accent.

Cordelia – S3   Daddy’s Love

Her dad could buy and sell anyone in Sunnydale, including those in her little clique. He made sure she had the best of everything, Prada shoes, dresses by Kay Unger and Tadashi, Dolce and Gabbana for her wrists, Charriol  jewelry and the cutest car on campus. What did she want for?

Simple, Cordelia thought, love.  She was Daddy’s little dress up doll, something he had because family men climbed the ladder faster.  Even when she was impaled, all he could tell her was the plastic surgeon would make her better when all she wanted to hear was ‘I love you, baby.’

Willow – S1  Disappointment

Willow looked at her report card, smiling proudly at all the A’s. The only blemish was the B minus in gym but who cared if she could dribble a basketball. Later, the wounds on her young heart would answer that. Her father lectured her for an hour about the importance of being well rounded, of how colleges wanted more than just brains.

It wouldn’t have hurt so much, if he had just taken the time to compliment her other accomplishments but he didn’t notice them. When did her parents ever notice her except when she somehow was less than perfect?

Xander – pre show  Alcohol

‘You’re an embarrassment,’ was the last thing Xander heard before his father paused in his drinking long enough to slam his hand across his son’s face. Through ringing ears, Xander heard him add, ‘no Harris had ever been so dumb before that they needed testing to see if they were retarded.’

His face stinging, his heart shattered, Xander slunk off, wishing he could hate his dad but somehow he couldn’t. But he had to wonder maybe if his dad spent less time drinking and more time with him, he wouldn’t be so stupid. Curling up on his bed, Xander wept.

Giles – any time post S1  Regrets

His father had tried to shape his life with too heavy of a hand. Giles knew his father had meant well in trying to make him see his destiny was more important than his dreams but he hadn’t been willing to accept that. Giles didn’t regret trying to find his own way, no matter how dark that way had gotten.

His only regrets were he had lost his father along the way. Maybe his memories had mellowed with time but his father hadn’t been such a bad man. He regretted disappointing him. Giles wished his father could see him now.

Tara – Leaving Dad

What kind of father could be so devious? All her life she had grown up thinking she carried an evil heart. It had colored her life and her loves grey. She had lived in fear of destroying those she loved. With one punch from a vampire, it all ended. The man behind the curtain wasn’t a concerned father trying to protect the world from her. No, her dad was nothing but a redneck idiot who thought women were put on the earth to wait on him. Tara buried him in her heart. She needed to thank Spike. Cigarettes should work.

Anya –  S 7 Fatherhood Lost

She hadn’t known when D’Hoffryn allowed her to regain her demonic nature and it hadn’t survived the transformation. He told her later when she petitioned to become human again. Anya hadn’t known anything could hurt her more than Xander’s abandonment but this had. If she had known before she picked up the vengeance mantle, would she have done it? No, never, the cost had been too high. Should she tell Xander? Anya stroked her belly. No, she could never tell him he would have been a father. Even if he never asked how she lost  the baby, she would know.
