Wasn't expecting that
Feb. 8th, 2020 11:35 pmSo it snowed more overnight and was snowing all morning. It wasn't sticking much but I had to go out in it because one of the blood tests required a pill to test how fast the body clears it. I head to the clinic, contemplating kicking someone's ass as she's standing there coughing and flu-ridden (my area has actual quarantines for this) and NOT using the masks as they beg you to. As for me they took NINE vials of blood. Vampires!
I did do the laundry in spite of the snow. I'm sitting in the library waiting for the wash cycle to be done and get a 'level 1 snow emergency' text. What the heck? Dudes it's not snowing that so hard. I went to the coffee shop and it was packed. So no one else cared either.
What I learned today, it might not be the lactose making me sick with lattes (well not alone) Substituted coconut milk today. A) wrong mouthfeel B) ruined the taste of the chocolate strawberry C) just as sick just as fast. Has to be the fat in it.
I've a lot of fan recs to make that I forgot on Thursday.
three 3 sentences stories here for me, one Tiger& Bunny, Kamisama Kiss and Black sails
A wonderfully dark Prodigal Son drabble and another Prodigal Son ficlet here.
An FBI drabble
More three sentence stories Batman, Naruto, Miraculous Ladybug, Arrow, Tiger & Bunny, Vestaria Saga

Date: 2020-02-09 11:36 am (UTC)Sympathies about the blood-letting. I haven't read all your posts lately, so I seem to have missed the lactose question: Are you on the search for food intolerances/allergies? If yes, best of luck! Most of mine I found out by try&error or just following my sister's lead (she and I have a similar enough allergy history to make our mutual results/finds worth a try). I have yet to have an official name for what it is related to dairy with me, but I seem to not being able to tolerate _anything_ that comes from the mammary glands of an animal. Complete lactose intolerance, also casein (is that an intolerance or allergy? I don't even know), allergic against all animal milk we tested/tried so far, even butter and ghee. All to varying degrees, if I don't have other symptoms a bit lactose powder in a store-bought cookie might be ok, and a bit of butter used for cooking a restaurant dish is as well. On very good days I might even eat a bit of goat cheese, or have a tiny amount of goat hard cheese grated on a pizza. I have symptoms in these cases, but mild enough to once every half year or so fill a cheese crave (which never seem to lessen *sigh* ).
In the end, it turned out I really need to avoid any dairy product, including any kind of replacement ones. Even if I might not react badly to some, just mildly, I'm healthier and feeling better overall when avoiding it completely instead of just having a bit here and there.
You get used to the milk-free alternatives, but give it time - if you're just switching everything plant-y tastes too different, and it's also all "perfumed" with the frustration of having to forego old favourites, which doesn't make the transition easier. I also found that the taste varies greatly with different brands, and I totally dislike some while really enjoy the same of a different brand.

Date: 2020-02-09 05:42 pm (UTC)So I have a decent grasp on what I can and cannot eat. However, I decided to try the lattes because they do more interesting things with them than they do the mochas which have less milk (I might just talk to them and ask, hey can you develop some fun mochas too??)
Since I rarely use the fake milks I didn't realize the coconut one would taste vile and make me sick anyhow. Soy does the same. I won't drink almond due to the horrible farming methods here in the states that produce them. I might try the oat one
But you're right, it's rough trying to compile a list of what you can eat and what sets you off. I have to do the intersection of all the above listed issues AND diabetes. I'm sorry you have such issues with dairy. I'm lucky I don't
