I'm over it
Mar. 27th, 2020 09:47 pmI've found the fly in my online ointment. I have to make a paper packet for the no-internet folk. I went in today. 11 AM - me, all smiles and optimism heads to the office
1120AM - The exams will only print out with the answers already marked. Insert curse words. Copies it to Word only to find out it separated the questions from the numbers AND removed all the A B C options so I'll have to put them back in.... all 80 questions worth.
1230 PM - Finishes test one of SIX. Insert more curse words.
1240 - says fuck it and PRINTS the exams because taking either white out to the answers or just covering them with marker would be less time consuming.
1250 Talks to another professor roaming the halls also cursing how hard science is to move online (from 6 feet away, no worries)
1:00 pm tries to print the 16 home work assignments.
110PM finds out it will only print ONE question at a time and I have to advance the questions and send it to the printer to each and every one. more than a dozen assignments each 25-50 question
120 Fuck it, I'm going home because I have to copy and paste all these questions into word.
130 give the other professor some other online suggestions
9:15 pm STILL copying and pasting from the one class because all the matching ones you can't copy the choices just the questions and I have to type them all. Can't bring over the labeling correctly and have to do it separately, can't copy the drag and drops, just the categories and have to type in all the options.
Shoot me.
ANd then I decide, since they want all classes online this summer I might teach it IF I know the online options (and the caveat that they MUST have high speed internet at home or they have to wait to take the gen ed in the fall because I'm not doing this again)
My foot is looking pretty good. My brain less so, I haven't been too anxious which is usual because I don't do well if I'm NOT working but I guess I really AM working but last night was bad because someone locally did die of the virus and I live in the middle of nowhere (which some people think will save them and they don't have to play along)
