A very starving dog showed up tonight, way too late to take to the humane society if it would even be open on a holiday (dogs always show up on a holiday) SHe's a really friendly lab. I gave her the only spare food I had (since I'm barely able to feed me). She has a collar with rabies tags but not home number and she didn't get THIS starved in a matter of days. Someone's been mistreating her for weeks.

She's safe enough down here in the hollow (I've been told by the manager people always drop animals off here). I was thinking I'd take her to the humane society tomorrow if she's still here...only we have NONE. There isn't one for over 40 miles. THe closest one is in another state. I don't know where any of them are. There isn't a single one in my county OR the next closet county. I'm going to have to look for animal control or the pound and I HATE doing that

That is so heartbreaking. Poor thing.

i know. worse we had wild cats here and my neighbors said they took the mom and the babies away. I assumed they took them to the humane society....

Maybe she and the St. Bernard I found this a.m. should get together?

I HATE people who mistreat animals (as you well know). Let me know what happens - if anything - will you?

Thanks for feeding her what you could. Maybe she'll come back and you can find a place to take her.

*fingers crossed*

I got thanked profusely by the staff for bringing in that St. Bernard today - which was kind of heartening. They also told me how long they'll hold him for his owner to claim him and when he'd be adoptable!

There was the cutest (yes, I had to go look) pit bull there - white with lemon markings and ears just like Callie's. Just a beautiful little puppy. And a teeny puppy who looked like it wanted to grow up to be a Border Collie/Lab cross, and then the Jack Russell who was so miserable, he started crying as soon as he saw me and flung himself at the kennel door.

I wanted to take 'em all. *sniffle*

It was a cute, alert little puppy. Mom was in terrible shape, though - I had the feeling she wasn't going to be adoptable unless someone was really willing to take a lot of time with her.

That's the way I felt, too. Oh, to have the money to have a farm....

I even thought of a name for that pit bull who had Callie-ears: "Gee Whiz!" because that's what it looked like it was saying.
