Wow the attrition is high
Nov. 16th, 2021 09:56 pmLost a bunch more students today. The fact is we're getting kids that are SO unready for...name a thing. We have trained them to expect 50 tries to get things right, that failure has no consequences, that we'll work around them not the other way around. I'm not sure how we got here or how we'll get back.
I'm unlikely to get through all my material for the first time in a while (I had to kick one chapter to the spring several years back and now I have to do it again). If I gave them a test from a decade ago I'd have a handful pass. Class average on yesterday's test 50%. And that's still better than some classes where they're seeing test scores of 1-3% on high school math.
I haven't looked at the case studies on the parasitology test but as for the multiple choice part 3 out of 9 passed....
This job is just getting so damn hard.
My parents seem to be having a good time with my cousins who are visiting. Turns out one of them is big into Bigfoot. Too bad they weren't there over the weekend so my brother could go talk bigfoot with them. Ha.
BBL later with the snippet. I hope you're enjoying them.
Snippet - “We need reinforcements,” Grace said. “And we don’t have them.”
“Another reason I’d rather be in Pittsburgh.” Laura swung her weapon of choice a mace supercharged with her magic. She smacked the dog hard, rolling it.
“My magic isn’t going to work on that,” Dan said, slashing at the demon trying to drive it back. “Al, can you generate more light?”
“On it.” Alessia raised her burning hand. “Dan! Move!”
He tried to jump back as the demon spun kick. Its taloned foot caught him in the gut. Dan shrieked, stumbling back. He fell holding his stomach, the scent of blood filling the air.
“Damn it,” Laura swore just before she screamed. The hell hound caught her in the neck. Grace decapitated it but it wasn’t’ fast enough. Laura collapsed, her neck opened.
Grace killed the other dog and Alessia poured her magic into her fire. The light and heat boiled over bathing the demon. It growled viciously as its shadows flittered away. Something tore inside her, pain driving her nearly to her knees and the light blinded her and blinked out as her limits slammed into her like a Camaro hitting a wall at ninety miles an hour. The demon disappeared and Alessia caught her balance before she fell.
