Writerly Ways
Dec. 19th, 2021 08:53 pmI made it home without incident but I'm too tired to empty the car so let's do a little writerly ways. I've been going to the coffee house to write as a treat. On the other hand I know a lot of people go there exclusively and 2020 took a bit on their creativity. I had one person on twitter who complained about it nonstop and my thought was this is very maladaptive.
It occurs to me that we need to carve a spot out in our own homes for our creative endeavors. (I figure conservatively I'd burn 100$ in coffee every month if I went to a shop every day) Of course that is much easier said than done. I can do it relatively easily but I live alone and it doesn't matter to me if music or the tv is playing (though the latter does slow me down naturally) Of course if you require silence a coffee shop isn't going to be your thing anyhow.
I guess for those with kids and signficant others etc working out a time to have quiet to work would be the way to go. All of this is going to be individualized with no one way to do it but it's something to think about.

Date: 2021-12-20 05:27 pm (UTC)That said, now that I've done some writing in November on weekends (when I normally don't get to my 'writing place' and didn't get any done at home), I have a new appreciation for being able to do it if I have to.
As for noise, the noise of a coffee shop is almost like white noise. (Unless there's someone right behind you talking politics and making you want to bang your head on the table.)

I think 2020-2021 we can forgive whatever we were doing other than writing
