ALL the fannish thing
Jan. 1st, 2022 04:50 pmHere are all the stories I wrote this year plus another fannish meme (there's another AO3 one I wanted to do but can't find it now). I put the stories into their fandoms so look for that. Keep in mind I didn't put the ratings or pairings on these because I didn't want to be here all day. Have fun.

Monster Hunting in the Age of Flappers
Research Party (Slaying in the 80s)
THIS YEAR I WROTE AND POSTED:
88 fic over 14 fandoms.
Total wordcount: 336356
OVERALL THOUGHTS:
Look this year anything I wrote is a blessing. Would I have rather that been original fiction numbers? duh. But I will take it and thank you all for coming along on this journey.
LOOKING BACK, DID YOU WRITE MORE FIC THAN YOU THOUGHT YOU WOULD THIS YEAR, LESS, OR ABOUT WHAT YOU'D PREDICTED?
About what I thought in spite of my injuries. Then again when you're lying in a hospital bed what else do you have to do.
WHAT PAIRING/GENRE/FANDOM DID YOU WRITE THAT YOU WOULD NEVER HAVE PREDICTED IN JANUARY?
Mostly I wrote my comfort fandoms and pairings. Sandman and Hinterland were new and fun and I wrote 911 for someone but I don't even like the show.
THIS YEAR'S THEME AND THE STORY THAT DEMONSTRATES IT MOST:
Anxiety and PTSD - pick a Prodigal Son story and run with it.
WHAT'S YOUR OWN FAVOURITE STORY OF THE YEAR? NOT THE MOST POPULAR, BUT THE ONE THAT MAKES YOU HAPPIEST?
Vengeance is an Emptiness, Price of Grief and its sequel Digging up Bones and Bound by Fear
DID YOU TAKE ANY WRITING RISKS THIS YEAR? WHAT DID YOU LEARN FROM THEM?
My biggest risk was actually my nano novel which the idea came to me at the last minute and I went into it with zero prep. What I learned is I CAN do that but it's not fun. That said I like this story and I want everyone to poke me to keep writing it.
MY BEST STORY OF THIS YEAR:
Vengeance is an Emptiness. I pulled this novel length story together and it was so very well received. It's dark but it made me so happy. If I were to ever crib one of my fanfics for an original novel it might be this one BUT it wouldn't work because you'd need to know the characters first. It could be a sequel novel...
MY MOST POPULAR STORY OF THIS YEAR:
Vengeance is an Emptiness by a landslide according to AO3 stats and what people have told me about how many times they've reread it.
STORY OF MINE MOST UNDER-APPRECIATED BY THE UNIVERSE, IN MY OPINION:
Both Price of Grief and Bound by Fear and probably Strong as Death. Okay I expected Strong as Death to be ignore. The Buffyverse is old now and it's about Connor. I was very disappointed about Price of Grief but I think that it was part of
wipbigbang and you have to post the whole thing at once and long stories just seem to do better if you do it a chapter at a time. And it's SUCH a shame because it has fantastic mood boards for every chapter. Also Bound by Fear and Price of Grief are in a series and that seems to scare people off and they are both alternate timelines so...
MY LEAST FAVOURITE STORY THIS YEAR:
Okay I general scrap things I don't like so I'll go with The Stillness simply because it's 9-1-1 and I'm not a fan. I wrote it for someone at
comment_fic who writes a lot for me and its their fave.
MOST FUN STORY TO WRITE:
Vengeance is an Emptiness and En Garde, the latter was for a challenge where you use cheesy romance blurbs. I got to reimagine Prodigal Son as a Victorian era story. Had some fun research
STORY WITH THE SWEETEST MOMENT:
Price of Grief has some very bittersweet moments and honestly the little story I just wrote, The Sweetness has Malcolm as a child trying to do something nice for his mom.
STORY WITH THE SINGLE SEXIEST MOMENT:
Blowing off Steam has some really hot Dani/Malcolm/Edrisa stuff in it.
MOST "HOLY CRAP, THAT'S WRONG, EVEN FOR YOU" STORY:
Everything I did to Malcolm in Vengeance is an Emptiness counts and frankly that goes double for he Anthropophagists Club where I've left off with Malcolm being held by high end cannibals
MOST OVERDUE:
Strong as Death which I abandoned in 2003
MOST EYE ROLL-WORTHY TITLE:
I probably have many but Why Holodecks are Great: a Thread is pretty lame as is Clowning Around
STORY THAT SHIFTED MY OWN PERCEPTIONS OF THE CHARACTERS:
Three Can Keep a Secret where I explored dark Ainsley as a character
HARDEST STORY TO WRITE:
Right now Digging Up Bones is being an issue
BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT:
That my fandom hit a wall at 100 mph when Fox cancelled Prodigal Son and no one has picked it up in spite of it trending in the top ten every week since May on twitter via the Save Prodigal Son Campaign including last night
BIGGEST SURPRISE:
Being able to write cogently in a hospital bed drugged to the eyeballs on oxycontin and morphine (seriously anything written from March-May was written this way)
MOST UNINTENTIONALLY TELLING STORY:
The number of poly and pegging stories I've written....looking at you Blowing off Steam. I'm pretty much Edrisa in that story
FAVOURITE OPENING LINE:
Agony and damp cold forced Malcolm to surface from the inky ocean he’d been drowning in. - Vengeance is an Emptiness
FAVOURITE CLOSING LINE:
Give their hearts time to break slowly, maybe more cleanly. She would say goodbye when time ran out. Price of Grief
IN CONCLUSION:
I need to write less fanfic and more original
FIC-WRITING GOALS FOR 2021:
Just Keep Writing!!
