Snowflakes, Pain and other things
Jan. 25th, 2022 09:21 pmSo I scared the hell out of my nursing students today. I took a step in my usual pace around the front of the lecture hall thing I do and my knee buckled, bent straight backward enough that I heard the collective in rush of air. ARE YOU OKAY!?! Yeah I didn't fall (but this IS how I fell) and it hurts and I'm sad and depressed about it all.
Then I went into my office desk and thought WHY is there tea leaves all over? A MOUSE was in my desk drawer and ate the tea pouches. Well now I'm grossed out so thanks for that life.
Thanks to those of you who took the time to chime in about my casting and my novel. You know what, I really appreciated that and that blends in well with tonight's Snowflake challenge.
Challenge 13.
In your own space, share a favorite memory about fandom: the first time you got into fandom, the last time a fanwork touched your heart, wild times with fellow fans (whether on-line or off-line), a lovely comment you’ve received or have left for someone.
Points straight up. That was very nice. I have so many good fan memories. Like the fans who I have met throughout the years, the ones that made me at home with them, the ones who have talked with me late into the night, who have supported my writing and supported me.
But right now, right off the top of my head was last year. I mentioned this in another snowflake challenge, I was severely injured in a fall last year (points up to that buckling knee). SO MANY fans kept emailing, DMing and texting me to keep my spirits up when I was two months + in a hospital. I couldn't have visitors thanks to Covid but I never felt alone thanks to that. They sent me crayons and colored pencils, coloring books and all sorts of snacks and logic puzzles and that sort of thing. I got teddy bears, Prodigal Son travel mugs and masks and then the Prodigal Son fandom (well those on the trash server) got together and made me this, a piece of art based on one of my stories Come Undone and the lead character, Malcolm Bright

Isn't this cool? I love it (It's in my office to cheer me up)
Also you know what else I love

Date: 2022-01-27 07:42 am (UTC)It sounds like you really went through it, but also that a lot of people stepped up to help distract you and make you feel supported and that's fantastic. Stuff like this really shows fandom at its best.
I'm sorry about the near fall and the mouse, it's the last thing you need when you're in pain anyway.
