cornerofmadnessFor this ways, let me ask a question. Does anyone know why so many anthology open calls are barely a month long. And a lot of them aren't exactly short stories. I could see it for flash fic. I realize there is an editing schedule etc that has to be upheld but wouldn't it make more sense to put the call out earlier? Surely they can't all be last minute ideas.
At least a few publishers put out their yearly calendar, still a month to submit but at least i know that by August I need to get the Christmas story to them. I suppose it's possible that the clearing houses I'm looking at are getting the anthology calls late.
That said I have been invited to submit and same deal. here's your month to write, edit and submit. THat is a tight schedule for someone working a day job. two months and I'd probably hand you a better story.
Speaking of which, anyone want to look at a n urban fantasy flash fic for me under 1000 words since it has to be? It's almost done.

Folk Horror (I might have one for this but not sure it's horror enough)
Bioluminescent: A Lunarpunk Anthology I REALLY want to do this but many that short open call.
Midnight in the Dying Garden: Fairy Tales for the End of the World
Tempered Tales: Medusa
Cli-fi contest no entry fee but man this is exactly the same call I already wrote for and will be out soon. I'm not sure I have another one in me
