I was going to ask you all about a few details in the Buffyverse since I can't really look them up from work and I'm still working on getting a computer but I'll be damned if I can remember what I wanted to ask. Hell I can't even remember what character it was!

So instead I'll just say I went and did it. I've resigned up for nanomo. If anyone's interested in it, just click here. It's good to get you writing original fiction and especially if you're one of those who writes one scene and then edits it to death for months. You don't have time for that here. If you want to even come close to writing 50,000K you need to just write and let it go. Yes some of it may be real crap in the end but you'll be a heck of a lot closer to done if you just let the story flow and edit later. I'm hoping to finish the novel I started last year and to get moving on that YA werewolf thing (Ironically I 'won' last year and haven't written a word of original fic since almost)

You're not senile. Your brain is just jam packed full of stuff.

Huh, for a second there I thought you were "resigning from" nanowrimo.

I've never had a *big* problem with the need to edit, edit before moving on in the story, but I'll tell you what--if I had? Writing serial fan-fic with readers clamoring for new episodes has taught me to get it done and move on better than anything.

yeah it would help to use a - from time to time.

Good thing to learn. i CAN do the edit thing if I'm not careful but I'm pretty good at moving along

I write WIPs and post by chapter because I pick, pick, pick and never move on if I don't. I've been playing with the idea of writing a full story first though and posting it after the fact.

I promised a 40,000 word fanfic for charity (to my husband, bless his heart. He upped and added an extra $200 from his own account). I might just change names and try writing the whole thing. I need to do some research into mythology because the fic is a Dru/Illyria friendship where they work together to rescue Spike from Hell post NFA, but I could go back and rewrite or just make up my own mythology. Hubby wouldn't care.

Heh. Sounds like fun. Only problem is that my current WIP would languish for the month. Wouldn't be the first time.

Wow, your idea sounds really cool! I'll be interested in reading that. :)

Thank you. I think it will be fun to write as well. I've decided that with the tricks Spike learned from Pavanne he's going to be causing some upset during his downtime. I don't want to get into the torture stuff that was getting so old on the show.

Since my hubby is more into the Dru/Illyria I just have to be sure Spike doesn't steal the show.

Oh i'm the queen of languishing WIP's. damn Gemini attention span.

Good luck with the 40,000 word fanfic. No reason you couldn't do that for Nanomo.

I used to ahve a lot of mythology sites and some good books if you need help

Good luck to you too. I'm in awe because you've done this before and know exactly what you are getting into.

I can only imagine!

I would be interested in links, or names to the sites and the books if you can get to them easily. I intend for Dru and Illyria to have expectations based on mythology and find that things are a lit-tle bit different than they expect.

And that was me, logged out.

And I meant to say thank you for offering the information as well. My mother spent a lot of time hounding me about good manners. It sunk in but I'm still a little slow.

Did you find the NaNoWriMo forums to be very helpful?

Date: 2005-10-06 04:21 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
Honestly I find most of the forums to be time wasters. Sometimes they're helpful but more often than not, no.

From: [identity profile] myfeetshowit.livejournal.com
I was afraid of that. Oh well. The main thing I want is to try the process of writing straight through and revising the whole.

This will get me to it. We can commiserate and keep asking each other why we're doing this.

Indeed we can. And sometimes the forum is helpful. You'll pick out fast which threads are a help and which aren't

http://www.pantheon.org one of the best site for mythology that I know. The books are home. I'll have to remember to write down titles

And thanks

Thank you. I used to have a decent collection but I don't keep many books anymore because of allergies. It is very tragic 8D

My memory is worthless and I can't remember which ones I liked best. I have a PDF of Bullfinch's and I've got to read my Joseph Campbell yet. Maybe I'll do that over vacation.

Heh. That does say something about me doesn't it. Reading 'The Hero with a 1000 Faces' for vacation fun.

I read that for fun so...

I forgot to look at my list of books. I suck

From: [identity profile] myfeetshowit.livejournal.com
It's the kind of thing I read for fun as well, but I like to do it when I can sit and read for long periods. Most of my reading these days is done on mass transit so books that are light in the hand are favored for practical reasons, if not for the greatest enjoyment.

Don't worry about the list - I'll be able to keep myself busy with that website for quite a while anyway.

I hear you about the light transportable books. In the realm of TMI, big heavy books sit between toilet and tub

Date: 2005-10-16 06:19 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] myfeetshowit.livejournal.com
I have to have the heavier ones on a table because I keep dropping them if I try to hold one for any length of time.

I didn't get to read 'The Hero with a 1000 Faces' after all. In a classic "My Dog ate the homework" manuveur, one of them chewed the book to pieces while we were loading up the car. Neither one of them has done that for over six years. The only thing I can think is that we left them behind on our last vacation (the first time we had done so) and they had abandonment issues.

Now though, I'm not sure I want to pay out the money to buy a second copy. I'll have to see if the library has a copy that isn't too moldy.

I wonder if I'm the only person who goes through the library and bookstores smelling the books?

Date: 2005-10-16 02:46 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
Oh god, sorry to hear about the book. No, I go thru smelling them too. I'm allergic to mildew so sometimes books from used book stores bug me and smokers using books at libraries irk me

Date: 2005-10-16 05:13 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] myfeetshowit.livejournal.com
The mildew and smoke are my problems as well. I gave up on the second hand book stores unless I'm going to Powell's for something I absolutely can't find elsewhere.

I only go to the library if I'm researching and I limit that - one reason I'll never write great stories. I won't spend too much time looking things up in books.

I go to libraries constantly. At least once a week. I'm always researching something

I figure it this way, if we fail we only disappoint ourselves. Good luck. What do you want to do for original fic?

I have absolutely no idea.

The Plot Bunny is not favouring me. Again.

See why I need you to hold my hand?
