The day itself was beautiful but work is getting unbearable and today there was a deal that should make it worse so huzzah

It's late, I'm tired so have my books. An interesting conversation was going on where some people are screaming not reviewing ARCS is theft and the rest of them going WTF are you talking about.

As an author I get the former point. We only get so many arcs from our publishers (or they're paying to get them on Netgalley and Goodreads which is another annoyance)so if I give out 20 arcs and get 2 reviews it's been a waste of money all around. On the other hand, I don't consider it theft. (now if you take your arc and put it up on a pirate site....)

As a reader I DO try my damnedest to finish an arc but I swear some of them are probably better offed DNFed. do you get arcs? do you finish all you get? I try to so I also try to not get too many arcs. I just turned down a direct offer from Simon and Schuster because the book was 600 pages + and I know I'll never finish it no matter how good it sounds.

What I Just Finished Reading:

Little Eve by Catriona Ward gothic horror (historical) If I had this from the library I might not have finished. I mostly finished because I paid money for it.

Night Witches, a graphic novel by Garth Ennis, good but it suffered from going on too long. He should have ended it when the night witches ended (mostly after WWII but it went on and on getting further from history)

Check Please - I liked a hockey webcomic?!? HOW? This is so cute.

What I am Currently Reading:

There Comes a Darkness by Katy Rose Pool but ever so slowly. I'm never finishing this thing. This is one of those arcs that's sucking my soul out. It's a good book but it's not a ME book also so long SOOOO long

Carry On by Rainbow Rowell. I had to check this one out because it feels like book 2...it's not. It's a very weird set up. You feel like you've come in in the middle. Also WHY so long?

The Joy Machine some star trek thing

Liar City - an eBook arc that I am enjoying but man my ebook time is very limited

What I Plan to Read Next: man I have over 1000 pages between what I have and two books arrived at the library so those...before I even finish what I have above

I adored Check Please and was fortunate to have found it when it was still being created... there is such an energy being part of a fandom where canon is still being created.

I tried so hard to read Carry On and just... couldn't. I didn't finish it and, well, didn't care... It did feel like the middle of a trilogy instead of the start, now that you say that.

Good luck with the work thing. Messy things are messy...

I read Carry On so long ago I can't recall if I was bothered by how it started. Did you know that this series was a spin-off from her book Fangirl in which the main character writes fanfic about Simon Snow? I never read that book, but I wonder if it set things up?

I've heard about that debate. As you said I can see what they are saying but as well I don't think it is quite theft.

The only place I even try for arcs is on Goodreads which I rarely win but when I do I try to read them as soon as possible. But there have been times when I read them but didn't give a review because I really didn't like it but didn't want to ding the book's star rating before it even came out.
