It did start out nice. BOTH my parents sent me Memes. Not this one but still




They made me smile with that. This was my last day of class barring the lab test tomorrow and it's a little bittersweet because two of my classes were pretty good, one I won't miss much (and I suspect the feeling is mutual)

Then I got hit with those news articles again, conservative relatives shit posting and then me spiraling and doom scrolling. Tell me to stop



For the last few years I've done getyourwordsout yahtzee prompts and always go for the trickiest, 5 stories, same character and all within 10 words of each other word count wise. tell me it's okay to cut 500 words from the ones that are 2500 words vs trying to get the two who are only 1900 words up to them.


Last Year I rewatched Emergency! a show I loved as a kid and while yes it is a bit showing it's age not surprising since it's from the 70s. What you might not know is it's a spin off of Adam-12 which was a spin off of Dragnet. So I decided to rewatch Adam-12 (on the same station as Emergency!) and that is...not going as well.

In a way it's frakking depressing because this came on the air the year after I was born in the late 60s. And everything they were worried about then, police brutality, drugs, racism etc...nothing had changed. Yes it has gotten better but we're standing on the precipice of sliding right back and that's depressing. It's also obvious we were still afraid of Nazis in the 60s (and still are because they ain't gone anywhere) and shockingly only a few episodes have referenced the Viet Nam war but I'm only in S2. I doubt I'll make it to S7.

On a show level, yes Reed is still cute (I had a crush on him as a kid) but man the acting in this is truly sub par. Malloy, the older partner is a stiff and a bore. Reed is a bit of a chauvnist (not by 60s standards but still) And a lot of the supporting actors aren't that good. This was one of the ones better in memory.


Have some community recs. I'm debating on this one summerofhorrorexchange I would enjoy it BUT do I have time.

I'm still angsting on what I could cross over with The Owl House to do intoabar because I'm not sure I'm up to another Prodigal Son/Lucifer though I could...

Then there's smallfandomfest but I don't actually have one of those but you might. Actually Ghost Hunt would probably count. Oooo I could use that for The Owl House crossover. Where are my ghost hunt manga?

Belated happy Star Wars day to you, too! We watched two episodes of The Mandalorian 3 as we just got another month of Disney+ to catch up.

Darn, that sucks! I would prefer to watch everything on discs, and we're getting those of our favourite series once they're out - meaning everything Star Trek ^^ - but it's sometimes so long until they're available... and I'm frustrated that of some series there don't seem to be any DVDs or BluRays planned, like The Witcher series. I'm ambivalent about the series by now but still want them, particularly for the first two seasons so far.

I WANT dvds and apparently we're in a minority. I know Netflix doesn't put out dvds for a majority of their stuff. I need to check out Star Trek though I did see S1 of Disco and wasn't that excited about it. I still want to see more though. Ditto Picard and I DO have access to Star Trek whatever it's called with Pike. That one I need time for.

I want to see The Witcher

We're getting Picard over Amazon Prime and had Discovery 1-3 also there, but for Discovery 4, Strange New Worlds (the one with Pike) and Picard 3 we needed Paramount+ which has only become available in Germany this January.
I was excited about Picard at the beginning as I love him but wasn't that keen about the series, and S02 wasn't that much better, but S03 is really awesome with one exception in the middle. As it all ties together it's worht watching all three seasons eventually, and they're available on DVD (or can be pre-ordered).
I wasn't so sure about Discovery at my first watching all through seasons 1-3, and didn't much enjoy S03 at first watching, too. S04 was also really awesome, and I've started a full re-watch rigth after seeing S04 for the first time and now really like also the other seasons.
Strange New Worls I really enjoyed rigth from the beginning, it's quite fun and I believe quite close to TOS although I'm not super familiar with TOS - the only Star Trek series I've never fully watched and never really got into. ;op
Oh, and all of those are available on DVD or can be pre-ordered.

S01 of the Witcher was AWESOME, particularly with Cavill as Geralt. Siljan loves the books since they came out (in German much earlier than in English, btw) and enjoyed S01. I started reading after S01 and was very excited for S02, but we were both super disappointed - one needs to realise that there's a HUGE difference between the books and the series from S02 onwards. I plan a rewatch of S02 eventually and hope I'll enjoy it much more, as it was really well done, just so different that we were too put off at the time being. I'm also hoping watchng S03 which will come out soon in Germany will be a better experience, as we'll start without expecting any closeness to the books.
No DVDs in sigth, though, sadly.

I find it really frustrating in general when no DVDs are released - not only for those people who don't have sufficient internet coverage, but also those from countries where the streaming services aren't available, or not similarly available. I know from friends that most people start watching illegaly for this reason - something I refuse but also couldn't even if it wouldn't bother me; as Siljan is working from home he'll get in legal trouble if any of us is doing something illegal, internet-wise, trough our home internet. (And I'm not talking using a VPN, that would be ok, but for those services where that might be an option you'd need an U.S. credit card to pay as there are no other legal options, so too bad for us again).
I so want to watch Our Flag Means Death but it won't be available for at least two more YEARS in Germany, and with VPN I'll have the credit card issue. *grumbles*

I have a um...less than legal S1 of Our Flag Means Death on my half dead lap top that I MUST get the hell off there along with everything else. maybe next week.

I never gave much thought about needing dvds because you're in other countries and I don't know why! I've spent half my life trying to get crap from the UK or Japan and it doesn't work when I get it and then have to convert it...

That's interesting about Disco. I was truly rather bored much like with Enterprise, it is hard to go back in time and do stuff without us wondering why didn't we see this in Next Gen or DS9

Yeah I've heard S2 of Picard wasn't good b ut S3 was great. I wonder if I can skip one season....

Ha, I have the original series memorized but I grew up in the 70s and my parents watched it in reruns being big trekkies (especially Mom)

I did know about The Witcher going off the rails bookwise. I have not read the books (I got book 1 for Christmas, haven't gotten to it yet. Cavill himself was very vocal about it not following the book which I guess was part of why he quit.

My big desire for transfer to DVD is The Owl House (I have no way of downloading it) It is a Disney property and it is a) a kid's show b) has a Latinx lead and other characters of color c) VERY inclusive of bi/gay/pan/non-binary people. This is everything DeSantis and his book burning brigade hate and they're already all over Disney trying to destroy it. I want this show saved so bad
