I was reminded hard

Why I didn't have kids. I'm not a kid person. This was every bit as bad as I imagined it might be. Now to be fair, they ANSWERED my questions without hesitation. I'm not used to that. I'm used to the 18-20 somethings staring at me uninterested and unengaged. Not only did they answer me they asked me so many questions I could barely keep up and that was nice.
However, I have NO idea how boys are rounded up and put in tiger cages until they're 20. OMG. The girls were okay. I'm putting a damn valium in the boys' drinks tomorrow. Or in mine. Someone's getting sedated. Also this should NOT have been in my lab. They couldn't resist the rolling, spinning lab chairs. Don't spin in your chair. Don't spin in your chair. DON'T SPIN IN YOUR CHAIR. (whacks knee hard and looking at me, wibbly lipped) Well now you know why you don't spin in the chair. Walk it off.
The true problem is this is FREE and there is very obvious that there are parents who decided 'hey no day care fees for me this week' and dropped off their kid. These kids had NO desire to be there. Sullen. Resentful. Even the kids who were having fun couldn't draw them in.
At least I didn't have the kid who cried the entire day (and seriously if your kid is this socially anxious, you don't just drop him in and let experience 'fix him.' That's like tossing your kid in the deep end of the pool and say swim.)
Next week we have SO few attendees they jammed them all together (I'm not doing next week) and that really reenforces the no day care fee thing for me. Older kids have other things to do and/or are more bearable at home/don't need day care.
Worse, someone they scheduled soccer camp this week and everyone went to lunch at once. over 100 kids trying to get food from TWO lunch ladies because it's Juneteenth and the food manager didn't want to pay overtime for workers.
Tomorrow I'm NOT going to lunch. Let my assistant deal. That's the issue, our dean is not a scientist and she doesn't really know how LONG this takes. I have to clean my lab and reset it for the afternoon session. So if I have that hour on my own, I can do that AND get half-ready for the next day (also our food fucking sucks). She's also learning how few amenities are in our building. Usually she runs in runs out. She's staying there with us all week and realizing wow this place is not good.
Say a little prayer for my sanity. If you don't hear from me tomorrow, they killed me. If you hear my name on the news.....
But seriously no writerly ways or steampunk pics yet as I HAVE to finish my
unconventionalcourtship story. It's due in 2 days and I am not done so ending here and probably not going to say much tomorrow unless they set things on fire (they wanted to. Can we burn the skittles? hell no you can not. Why? Why would you want to? Then they started stealing my genetic taste strip papers which taste awful so they can prank their parents/siblings and oh did I mention two boys drew all over their arms in sharpie when I was helping another team of kids? BOYS, honestly)
And oh for music monday, love this cover from Abney Park, one of my favorite steampunk bands. I might not have been a firefly fan but I did like the song
