500 dollars later
Aug. 7th, 2023 08:24 pmI have four new brakes plus all new rotors on all 4 as well. There's a local mechanic well known to my family and he did it, close to 1000$ less than Honda would have charged. I'm happy enough. As far as I can tell they were the original brakes and if so I got 76K miles on them. No one can complain about that.
Yesterday Mom and I went to see my cousin (Dad's side, his age). She and I are the closest of all my cousins even ones closer to my age. We have a lot of the same interests including the ability to talk forever. Four hours later dad's calling mom's cell phone to be sure we (and the dinner we were bringing home) weren't in a ditch somewhere with my faulty brakes.
She also gave me one of her Native American pieces of jewelry. Honestly not something I would normally wear. It's a bone 'flask' on leather with pony beads. I need to get a picture of it if anyone's interested. I could probably could do something with it more like an art display. I really need to do more with my beading/creating hobbies.
How about you all? What are your favorite hobbies? Have any books (fiction included) related to your hobbies you want to share?
Speaking of sharing it's music monday. I have the latest from Valentine Wolf, a goth band I like. I'm a little surprised they have the whole album up.

Hard to say which hobby is my favourite, it kind of changes with the passion on the day. *g* Gardening used to be a hobby but is more like a job these days, considering the amount of veggie gardening I do - but visiting botanical gardenings with Siljan and doing (macro) photography of growing things definitely is a favourite! As is going to medieval/Viking fairs and visiting anything related (museums, sights, gravesites, shipsettings etc.), also about Celtic history and before.
Two other hobbies I don't talk about often as I don't do it a lot these days are builiding with Lego as well as "miniatures", in my case a long-term project to create miniature displays of a dollhouse kind but which aren't dollhouses but history or fandom related. So far I've mostly only been collecting and sometimes crafting things and trying to figure out what I actually want to do. Generally, crafting one thing or another is also a permanent favourite - I definitely have too many hobbies and passions, and never enough time for even half of them! ;op
No books to share out of hand, but rather this site - I came across the project on insta (where I'm following all kinds of "dollhouse/miniature" creators), and the method they're doing has been a big inspiration for me two years ago or so, particularly their way of relatively uncomplicated and simple crafting without the aim for perfection. They do have a book, too, meant for kids mostly but from what I've seen online it looks fun. In winter I treated myself to some of their kits to get a bit of a head-start with two of my project ideas, as I never seem to find the time to really start from scratch myself.
I also got two of their mice which are going to be Minerva McGonagall and Severus Snape for a room/scene with those two. *g*

Date: 2023-08-08 06:55 pm (UTC)You know I didn't know you were into Legos and miniatures. Thanks for the website rec. I had a Buffyverse friend
I hear you on the gardening. For me, my injuries have made it hard but I don't have the room to do what I need (the tall waist high planting beds) So I go along best I can with my veggies in planters. I brought half home, left half in the university green house. The deer ate what I brought home.
The Viking stuff could be fun. There was a little from Germany in that exhibit I went to. Have you see the YouTubber The Welsh Viking. He's interesting
