Trust drabbles Take One
Oct. 23rd, 2005 02:14 pmOh what a great prompt (and I have a new computer with unfettered writing time so yay!). Simply because I knew I could write on this topic forever and a day I decided to break my contribution into two parts. Buffyverse first. Let's face it, I could write a novel on the trust issues Connor had (okay I have done that) or Gunn/Wes post Fred well you get the idea. Enjoy.
Joyce - S1 Parental Roles
They tell you to show your children that you trust them, to foster mutual respect and yet keep a watchful eye on them always. That was your role as a parent, to be vigilant. Joyce can remember when she trusted her daughter implicitly even if she was growing up in a dangerous town like L.A. Joyce could almost name the exact day when that changed, when Buffy started acting so strangely. Joyce had hoped for a change in Sunnydale. Instead she was washing blood from her baby’s clothes, too afraid to even ask about it. Trust had withered inside her.
Buffy - S3 - Dissolved in Jealousy
She loved him. It was hopeless to pretend otherwise. She had risked her friendships for this man, even when she knew she shouldn’t. She knew how dangerous he could be and yet somehow that danger made him more alluring. She was a walking cliche clinging to the bad boy like all those girls she used to laugh at in chick flicks. Now, she found herself so jealous she could barely think. She had trusted him, even while kissing him with desperate fervor, knowing it might turn him again. But watching him play acting with Faith, trust died inside of her.
Oz watched her red hair swaying as she walked . He glanced over at another bank of lockers. Xander quickly pretended he hadn’t been watching Oz. The musician’s lip curled. He liked Xander and hated being angry with him. In spite of his and Willow’s relationship being back on track, Oz couldn’t help feeling uneasy and jealous, things he hated. He hadn’t been blind to the fact that Willow had tried to use him to make Xander jealous last year. When he saw her kissing Xander things changed irrecoverably. Oz might love Willow but would he ever trust her again?
Why was he still here? Well, he knew the answer to that. Where would he go? No respectable demon would want him with this bleeding chip in his head. A neutered vampire was something to be laughed at and secretly feared lest his fate somehow rub off on you.
No, the real question was why did the Scoobies let him hang around. They knew what he had done with Adam, even if he tried to lie his way out of it. Hanging around almost felt natural. It was almost as if they trusted him. How could they be so stupid?
Dawn watched the blood flowing from the cuts in her pale flesh. Did she trust was the red ebbing fluid told her? Was she human? How could she trust anything again? She wasn’t real. She had been wished into being by magic. Why didn’t she ooze mystical gate energy when her skin was broken? Why did the pain try to convince her she was real? She couldn’t even trust her friends and family. Her not-sister and Giles knew she was a freak and hadn’t told her. Her life was a lie. Maybe a few more cuts would make her believe.
