Managing Expectations
Aug. 31st, 2023 11:06 pmThis day went too fast. The good news is I sent off the novel and that's a giant load off my shoulders.
I saw the allergist who upped my meds to see if I can stop itching everywhere. Tomorrow is the psychiatrist, a new one. Not looking forward to this.
I spent the rest of the time looking at my trip to Cincinnati this weekend. I Google Earthed my planned tours. Couldn't see where the hell to park and these historic and ghost tours are in the brewery district which looks like it's crime a second down there, everything is half abandoned, boarded up etc (I know it's a hopping area but that doesn't mean it's not dangerous)
So I email American Legacy Tours about it. Kudos to them for being a) fast in response b) HONEST. they said yeah parking is an issue and told me where to find the public lots. They also said if there's a FC soccer game parking can be difficult (i.e. you're fucked).
Here's where I had to manage expectations and disappointments. I feel okay with parking a block or two away in the daylight. I will book a daytime history tour. However there is a game that night. That means I'm never going to find a place to park. Not only that at night on uneven sidewalks I need my cane. Just like in Albuquequere I need to admit to myself I might not be safe on my own in the dark. (Wish
evil_little_dog could have come) That cane is a red flag screaming I can't run, I probably can't fight (truthfully if I can I will swing on you with it as a weapon). I can do a ghost tour another night. (I did like the tour ending where it starts so I'm not hiking five blocks back to my car which yes I've had to do sometimes)
I thought about doing a river cruise but the hotels in Newport KY (right across the river where the boat leaves) were booked up (no surprise) and I keep forgetting about the aquarium there. So decided you know what, this is only 2 hours from here. I can do that another day.
So right now I have the history tour, going to the cemetery (which is an amazing cemetery) and sunday going to union station/city museum and the conservatory. THat's enough for a weekend. hit jungle jim buy even MORE food I dont' need, come home.
Thankful Thursday - I'm thankful that my latest story (under my pen name) is out
Transform the World: fourteen sci-fi writers save the planet I've been in all three of these solarpunk/hopepunk anthologies and this is a sequel to my first story with the series. I'm so excited for all of this. My is post-invasion reclamation of the world set where I used to live in Wisconsin (such a beautiful place. I miss it)

Date: 2023-09-01 03:52 am (UTC)That sounds like a fantastic weekend you have planned. I love a good historic tour; a ghost tour has an awesome mix of history and paranormal.
Hopefully, your new meds for your allergies helps!

I've noticed your post about the heat and I'm sorry, but I hope it's a good & inspiring trip nonetheless.
