Halloween Drabbles

Spike - Pre-show Costume Party
Darla had always said Halloween was tacky. Dru bought into it. Spike took advantage of his freedom. Costume parties always left him with any number of fine birds to shag and dine on, often at the same time, like tonight. The pounding techno beat drowned out her moans as he screwed then killed a red velvet devil. Spike left her propped up in a darkened corner table.
He was wiping the blood from his mouth as a waitress caught his arm and dragged him toward the DJ.
"Congratulations," the man said. "You won for best scariest costume."
Spike just laughed.
He held her until Halloween faded to day. Buffy fought to hide how shaken the spell had made her. It had been a long time since she had been vulnerable, easy prey.
For his part he hoped she didn’t see the lie hiding in his eyes, when he told her how much he hated noble women. He couldn’t believe she didn’t know that as a mortal in Ireland he had met precious little of them until the one night in an alley. Buffy could never know that her costume had reminded him of Darla and part of him liked it.
Back home, Halloween usually passed with very little fanfare, nothing like the Yanks put into it. Giles didn’t know what might fill the hole in him left when he lost both his job as a librarian and more importantly being a Watcher. His job had been his identity for so long.
There was fun to be had in decorating up the house and filling bowls full of treats, that he had been illicitly sneaking all week. As he plopped the sombrero on his head, Giles could pretend he was someone else. Now if only this night didn’t remind him of Ethan.
Tara placed the eight-spoked wheel symbol on the altar as Willow fussed with the little pumpkins and purple asters. She lit the candles and the censer as her lover started the fire under the little iron cauldron. Later they would go to the campus party but now was the time for magic.
She and Willow would burn a paper of their fears as they celebrated Samhain. Tara cut open a pomegranate and put some seeds on the wheel. After the invocation, she sat quietly thinking on her beloved mother as she rolled the pomegranate seed in her mouth. "Miss you, Mom."
He knew they weren’t demons from the smell. Connor didn’t understand the little creatures going up to the Hyperion, bags in hand. From his vantage point on the roof across the street, he watched Fred and Lorne merrily handing out candies to the intruders. Connor turned, hearing someone coming.
"They’re children," Angel said. "It’s Halloween, time to dress up and beg for candy."
Father had never told him of this. "Why?"
Angel shrugged. "Long story. Just wanted to be sure you didn’t panic and hurt them." He tossed Connor a Butterfinger. "Happy Halloween."
"Wouldn’t panic." Connor tore into the candy.
The frat house basement was ripe with the scents of beer, sweat and smoke. Stench aside, Connor was glad he dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow and came. It was his first Halloween party.
Seeing a fake vampiress near the keg, Connor thought about his parents. Maybe he should go see Angel this Christmas break, maybe ask him what Mom was really like. Did they ever go stalking on Halloween? Did he really want to know?
No, Tonight wasn’t the time for deep thoughts. All he wanted was the phone number of the vampiress with the long dark hair.
"Wanna dance?"

Date: 2005-10-31 04:39 am (UTC)I shouldn't read so quickly, you know? I had to read this line a few times to realize what it was you were actually saying.
But I love the Connor - Angel one and the Giles one. Hee! And Tara/Willow!
Oh, just give props all around.
