I see something too cool for words in a2zmom 's lj and just had to copy it.

Give me a song title. Any song title. It doesn't matter if I know the song or not. I have to write a fic or drabble based on that song title. You can't give me a genre or pairing or fandom. Just the song title. I'll take it from there

Fun huh? I'll try to make sure I tailor fandoms to fit you. Give me a few days because well I have another drabble thing I'm doing and oh I've yet to start typing my Buffy Love story. (at least I know where it's going), not to mention i developed two kink stories for the Cuff 'em ficathon

Green and silver are the Slytherin colours. Basically the idea is that my character is so Slytherin like that it effects me that badly. (and I am very Slytherin-like)

Sometimes I think it's because Slytherins are considered to be evil that green is one of the colours and the silver represents the gray areas because even though everyone considers them to be bad, it's more than likely that most of them aren't, they're only kids to start off with. What years of everyone being prejudiced against them may achieve is another matter.

Of course, it's entirely possible that I'm reading too much into it.

honestly i keep hoping for something more redeeming to come of Slytherin because an unrelentingly evil House makes no sense. You'd think that would get wiped out of the school rather than tolerated.

I do not believe they were an unrelentingly evil house. The books are all from Harry's viewpoint, and almost straight away he is being told things against them by people who are already prejudiced, such as Hagrid, Ron etc. They are only kids after all. If people are going to treat them like they are monsters, it's only natural that they lash back to protect themselves. And there are other examples, like the Weasley twins bullying Slytherin first years. It wasn't only the Slytherins who were capable of being mean, and first years probably hadn't done anything to the Weasleys except for being Slytherins.

And no one would do anything, because they're 'only Slytherins' after all. They deserve it. It's a sort of hate begets hate thing.

And for kids coming from Pureblood families, muggle-borns aren't so much people to be despised as people to be feared because they are a threat to their way of life. Each muggle-born witch or wizard is a step closer to the whole world discovering the wizarding world. If you take what happened during the burning times...well, it's all well and good talking about Wendolyn the Weird who liked to get herself burnt at the stake, but as soon as any human realized that most witches and wizards are rather helpless without their wands...all they'd have to do is take their wands away and that would be that.

And instead of people understanding where the prejudice is coming from and working to overcome it, they resort to name calling and name calling during childhood ends up as full blown war once they are outside Hogwarts and in the real world.

I'm not saying that the war is not caused by people like Voldemort wanting power, I just mean that it isn't the only thing causing people to fight.

Even the blatant favouritism shown by the teachers is hard on them. Take the first year..the Slytherins won the House Cup, they're kids, overjoyed they brought honour to their house and won something, and then at the last second, with their decorations already up, it's taken away from them. By a margin of around 5 points, which is given to someone who is not at all good at schoolwork or at contributing much to the school at all. (ie Neville). It wasn't a case of how many points Harry etc deserved, they were given just enough to win. And couldn't Dumbledore have given out the points before the feast, so as not to deal them such a blow?

Gah, sorry for the long comment. I've thought too much about this it seems.

i think I'll vote for thinking on it too much. You're right of course about prejudice but told from Harry's pov or not, every bad guy so far that has any amount of time on stage is from Slytherin, which frankly just bores me. if there is one complaint I have about the books it's I always know half the trouble is going to come from that house. I'd rather see a turncoat from somewhere else. That woudl at least be a surprise

Yes, and actually they're both rather different from the type of music I usually listen to. I like If I Apologized because of the lyrics and how they suit the film mostly. And Vienna Teng's music I've just got into recently after Jaki recced her to me.

I liked Vienna Teng a bit better and sometimes lyrics will suck you in regardless of musical genre...though I find little more disappointing than seeing great lyrics then hear the music and it's like EWWWW WTH was taht

She has some very good songs, I can send more if you'd like. And yes, many times good lyrics will get me interested in music that I otherwise wouldn't try out. I'm not all that keen on some of the music of If I Apologized.

But yes, sometimes the music part turns out to be terrible.
