Trying to get the one nano idea moving. Part of the problem is its told first person and there is just so much that Al and Lotus could be seeing and doing that Yukio would never know about. I'm currently reading a book where half the chapters are first person and the others third person limited. I've seen several books in this format. I've been considering this format for some time now. I'm beginning to think Yukio's story might benefit from it.

What do you guys think of them? Is that okay by you? Is it confusing? A turn off? Something exciting?

As long as the character who is written in first person is the one we should identify most closely with and/or is the protagonist of the novel, I don't think it's confusing.

I always write third person limited switching between characters in separate chapters or sections. It's a fun way to play with POV and show how different people interpret the same events differently.

Yes it is and I think the story would probably be enhanced if i hit up Al for her input on all of this. Because otherwise we'll only get Yukio's angsty skewed view of why she loves him

I personally get tired very quickly of books that have too much first person. It usually feels like the author's voice and not the character's, especially if the POV jumps from character to character (and somehow still sound the same... hmmm) so no, not to fond of them, especially it it's the beginning of the story that has too much 1st POV - at that point I don't know/don't care much about the characters to want to know them better or know how they think.

Maybe I've just came across too many bad books lately.

thanks for the input. I could pretty much guarantee Al would sound nothing like Yukio. She's much happier than him. I think you can have a good first person pov and you can have lousy ones. I'm always surprised by the sheer number of people i know who don't like first person pov's. I like them. It's second person or present tense stuff that i don't like (looks like run dick run to me

I think it's a good change from the normal formula, as long as it's done well.

I tend to not always be a fan of first person POVs but you do it so well with Yukio I don't even notice it! I think that some limited third person POV would suit quite well actually, as a bit of a counterpoint to his angsting ;).

yes we do need that counterpoint to Yukio and his angst fest. Zoloft for all
