Dear Muse,

This new story idea of yours doesn't fit [livejournal.com profile] 30kisses, [livejournal.com profile] 4purposes, [livejournal.com profile] smut_69, [livejournal.com profile] color_i_fic, [livejournal.com profile] 7stages or [livejournal.com profile] 10_cliche_fics or even what I promised to do for [livejournal.com profile] sarakat or [livejournal.com profile] mzzgoddessblue. Okay yes it is in a fandom I'm doing but seriously points to the above list of commitments, do you see that? Yes I know [livejournal.com profile] fic_frenzy starts tomorrow but that doesn't mean pick a new story. I don't care how cool you'll think it'll be. Don't do this to me.

Thank you

COM's Brain

So I was talking to mom tonight when dad gets on the phone. As a testament to his boredom (told you not to retire Dad), somehow he has found a site that had all the Shakespearan sayings that we still use today. He was stunned. I'm still not sure if he was disappointed or frightened that I knew exactly what plays most of them came from.

Which brings me to the latest J.D.Robb Eve Dallas mystery, this is set in 2060. You know I could live that long. This is the problem with near-future SF. Sometimes you know things just aren't going to change that much. we've been using shakespearan quotes for centuries. Do we honestly think 50 years from now we won't know what 'needle in a haystack' means? (or that Eve is so clueless that she doesn't know when you throw your best friend a baby shower you need to buy a cake and gifts?)

No! Don't shoot your muse! Just...teach it the value of finishing long-term, epic projects. :)

So this isn't a muse exactly, but I know I always seem to get programming ideas for quor-toth.net (http://quor-toth.net) that involve me doing more work. So perhaps my muse is a slave driver. :p

Connor's really cute when he sneers, isn't he?

Are you sure people know what "needle in a haystack" means now? How many people have ever seen a haystack?

Or did you mean the book has the saying forgotten fifty years from now? That one's unlikely.

the latter and I suppose i've lived my entire life barring that year in NYC where a good haystack was less than an hours drive away

Heh. You're comments about 50 years in the future is exactly why when I wrote my Spike post-NFA fic The Last Champion set 50 years in the future, I didn't make it all futuristic. Hell, I've lived more than 50 years, and while, yes, things have changed, they haven't changed all *that* dramatically. We still don't have flying cars or live on the moon, dammit. *g*

there are a lot of things I don't like about that series and MOST of them revolve around that theme. LIke there's no 'real' food except for the rich? oh yeah, okay sure. Or Robots with kickable genitals. I almost quit the series over that one

hmmm mediocre at best. then again you like her so you might like it better. I only get them to pass on to a friend who likes them because they appear in my book club. I find her main character highly annoying

many of them. Well by this I mean you b uy books cheap as opposed to reading and discussing...which I woudl love to do but it's always mainstream lit that I have no interest in. No one ever wants to do a mystery or horror etc book club
