Well i had a lot of other things i wanted to talk about too but i'm a bit tired and muddled for that. So I'll do what others are doing: the what I was doing in 97.

To be honest, when I heard the idea of making that movie into a TV show I was dubious to say the least. But I liked vampires so I gave it a try. I was utterly unimpressed. I thought the acting was bad and the too-dark film annoying and since at that time I was busy building my medical practice and was actually selling short stories, I was working long nights of dictating patient notes and writing. I had very little tv time and Buffy disappeared from view within a month.

Two and a half years later I'm in Wisconsin and [livejournal.com profile] evil_little_dog sends me a Buffy story to edit for her. (seriously how many fandoms has she dragged me into?) My reaction was, this is still on the air? She assured me that it had gotten better. I tried to get back into it but it took TNT rerunning the series to really pull me into it. It was far more than I ever expected. Smart, serious funny and downright heartbreaking at times. It was love.

Have i loved it unequivocally? No but those first three years taken in huge gulps on cable were wonderful. I enjoyed watching the characters grow and change even if I didn't like the way some of them changed. It was nice to see strong women for a change as well.

I don't know how many stories i've written, over a hundred i know that. Today i posted a new chapter for the longest of them, and maybe the best of the bunch, Hyperion's Son. Most of my Buffy stories are not in my LJ memories since i came late to the LJ party. However the link to my website is in the info and most of them are there. Enjoy.

you did? were they at the used place? word of warning (as i'm sure you know now) if it's just Saiyuki and not S. Reload or S. Gunlock, the animation AND the VA's will make your senses bleed

i'm sure. they went to the Hanna Barbara school of animation. There's even a few shots of Goku doing the hunched shouldered, praying mantis arm thing that Shaggy and Fred had going on

I haven't seen that yet but I'm sure it's only a matter of time.

I loved BtVs the first time I saw it (starting somewhere in season 2 or 3 I think). It was definitely love at first sight. It was/is one of the most intelligent, self-effacing, genuinely funny, best cast shows I've ever seen on television. I mean c'mon - humor, mysticism, female badasses and horror. How can you go wrong with that?

I spent so many years trash talking Buffy. I was like, 'Vampires? What is this crap?' And then, when I was in year ten I happened to read some HP/Buffy crossoever fic (the amount of things I have got into on the basis of crossover fics is insane) and realised that potentially, Buffy could be kind of cool. And since Fox8 was re-running Buffy ten zillion times a week, the next time I happened to come across it in my channel surfing, I actually watched it. The ep was Becoming Part Two, and about two seconds in, I realised that it didn't exactly suck as much as I claimed it did. It was the scene with Buffy and Whistler in Giles's house that got to me, actually, and I couldn't tell you why, but it got me interested enough (that, and Giles calling people pillocks - I was so into HP at that point) to watch the next episode I came across (which was Amends, so yay me for beginning with the depressing ones). And that, as they say, was that. Totally hooked - I began taping like a mad creature. My lame friends gave me so much shit for such an abrupt 180, but oh, it was fun.

snort. looking at a lot of posts i think many of us had little to no expectations that Buffy could have been good. Glad we were proven wrong

I thought the idea of making it a TV show was dubious too. I can still quote more lines from the movie than the whole series. But it sucked me in pretty quickly. I didn't love every moment, but one the whole it was a great series. I do miss it. *signs nostalgically*

HS is definitely one of your strongest stories. For me personally, I still have a lot more Buffy left to tell.
