Additional Buffy thoughts
Mar. 10th, 2007 10:53 pmWell i had a lot of other things i wanted to talk about too but i'm a bit tired and muddled for that. So I'll do what others are doing: the what I was doing in 97.
To be honest, when I heard the idea of making that movie into a TV show I was dubious to say the least. But I liked vampires so I gave it a try. I was utterly unimpressed. I thought the acting was bad and the too-dark film annoying and since at that time I was busy building my medical practice and was actually selling short stories, I was working long nights of dictating patient notes and writing. I had very little tv time and Buffy disappeared from view within a month.
Two and a half years later I'm in Wisconsin and
evil_little_dog sends me a Buffy story to edit for her. (seriously how many fandoms has she dragged me into?) My reaction was, this is still on the air? She assured me that it had gotten better. I tried to get back into it but it took TNT rerunning the series to really pull me into it. It was far more than I ever expected. Smart, serious funny and downright heartbreaking at times. It was love.
Have i loved it unequivocally? No but those first three years taken in huge gulps on cable were wonderful. I enjoyed watching the characters grow and change even if I didn't like the way some of them changed. It was nice to see strong women for a change as well.
I don't know how many stories i've written, over a hundred i know that. Today i posted a new chapter for the longest of them, and maybe the best of the bunch, Hyperion's Son. Most of my Buffy stories are not in my LJ memories since i came late to the LJ party. However the link to my website is in the info and most of them are there. Enjoy.
