Excell is randomly picking columns to average again instead of the ones I tell it to. Why does it hate me so.

Why did i agree to do a test next week? and HOW did we get down to the last two weeks of class already. Spazzes. Hard.

Why did I go to that lecture today on abstract math in coding theory and cryptology? i haven't felt that dumb in years.

Why oh why does UPS NOT knock on my door? There was no box of beads when I came home last night (and I checked UPS's hiding places looking for Amazon box and its precious manga contents)?

In good new I sent my hook for my novel into a contest. Let's see how we do.

In funny news one of my students interupts his questions while sitting in my office. Points to my FMA poster and says does the manga take it further than the movie/anime. Spent my lunch explaining the virtures of manga over anime in the FMA (and Saiyuki) worlds

Oooh, are you calculating grades? You should *so* let Excel decide their grades for you!

That would be bad for the students unless Excel kept giving them 100's lol.

"Today class I have your grades. Excel decided to so graciously fail you all."

In today's news, it has become a common trend of murdering professors who use Excel. Students everywhere protest the use of the popular program by burning them and running them over with steam rollers.

[Sorry, just being goofy and random today]

Students would be horrified if they knew some of the methods by which their grades are actually decided. My history prof brother prefers the staircase method.

No, I'm not serious, but it is a little-known fact to students that the task arguably the most important to them that a teacher does--grading--is in fact, the most *tedious, boring* part of the job for teachers, and the temptation to make it easier or more pleasant somehow is really difficult to resist.

I wish we'd had more use of scantrons in philosophy.

that's the one good thing about science. yes i could make it all essays but i can just as easily make a difficult test via the scantron.

that would be better than some of them will do on their own

the staircase is probably more merciful than me

that's exactly what I'm doing. sadly it's giving my good students lower grades and passing ones who shouldn't. it hates me

I love that you were explaining manga to one of your students. You should be a manga teacher. LOL

what makes it more fun is this student is about a year younger than me so you have two adults chattering like kids with a new toy

LOL. That's great.

Good luck on the contest. I'll be interested to see how it does because I thought it was wonderful.

UPS, I don't know they don't knock on my door half the time either. It's not that big a deal with me because living in BFE I think they figure my packages are safe on my porch (and they're right)

Hee! Not a bad way to spend lunch

Why did i agree to do a test next week?

Yeah! Especially since I'll be in Ohio next week. ;)

Why did I go to that lecture today on abstract math in coding theory and cryptology? i haven't felt that dumb in years.

Dear god, why did you go? That sounds like something more that computer science people would need anyway. And math lectures are always great for making you feel dumb. I swear, I think I only managed to get decent grades in math by sheer force of will.

Spent my lunch explaining the virtures of manga over anime in the FMA (and Saiyuki) worlds

Ah...you're corrupting young minds. Good work.

From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
yeah i only have two weeks left of class. I'm going to be so damn busy I won't be able to get away i'm afraid.

and why did i go? because the computer science guys got this dude in as a guest speaker and they don't want the audience to be empty.

actually he was an old mind. my two biggest anime fans in class are both men my age.

Oh no, I totally understand. I was just giving you a hard time. ;)

I like your icon. I wish Connor would come up to me, put his hands up, and say, "Please violate me". :D

i'm sad though since every time I almost get out of here to do something fun i can't

Oh i know. And Hakkai (in the icon) is a lovely bit of two dimensional male

Oh crap! There's a big anime con in Boston, but it's next week. Sheesh.

Where's Hakkai from?

From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
i know that. My friend Flippy is going. I could cry. Two weeks later and I WOULD have gone.

Saiyuki.

Props on the FMA manga front.

I also like to go to random lectures, and they also make me feel dumb. But I latch on to the parts that I kind of sort of do understand and salve my ego with the idea that most people wouldn't even get that part.

I commiserate with your Excel troubles. Last time I used Excel heavily, it sent my (hypothetical) spacecraft straight into the sun. Excel is painfully obstinate when it wants to be.

Didja read Chapter 70 yet? It'll make you feel better. ^_^ (Yes, I am that excited by it)

Date: 2007-04-14 01:48 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
I can tell WHY you were so excited about #70. OMG. I almost made a squealing noise. I don't do that. Ever. Between the utterly hysterical Ed/Win stuff, and Zolf (who I have an unreasonable lust for) I was thrilled and then those final panels with Riza. Holy Hell.

I actually went to the lecture because it was a guest speaker invited by the math/science club and they want us to go (so SOMEONE'S in the room) I had no clue WHAT he was talking about but it was making me nervous.

poor space craft. It's sending my students grades into the dumper

Date: 2007-04-14 02:09 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lyricnonsense.livejournal.com
Somehow I get the sneaking suspicion that my spacecraft deserved its ultracrispy tan less than your students deserve dumper grades.

I seriously oscillated between "OMG PRIDE" and "SQUEE ED/WIN" after reading that chapter. My friends thought I'd lost my mind. And I would lust over Zolf with you except I'm too afraid he'd blow me up. Guess they can't be suave and sane...

Date: 2007-04-14 02:52 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
i'm sure your spacecraft deserved a far better fate.

and yes same here OMG PRIDE! didn't see THAT coming (just posted about this) and Ed/Win YES YES (I'm not really a fan of several Ed ships so this makes me smile)

As for Kimbley...i still want to tie in his explosions with his sex drive. I was so disappointed i was too late to get him/hand over at FMA_fuh_q last month

I find your unexpected manga conversation amusing.
