It was so cool

So today we were dissecting eye balls and frogs (who says my classes aren't fun?) and I hear a student say, "I think our frog has cancer."

I go over figuring it's probably full of eggs or something but lo and behold the entire liver is filled with these really cool white ball like things (I must take in the camera!) It's some kind of cool encysted parasite. We put it under the dissecting scope and one of the students who found it tried to get the cysts open but the formalin had made identification impossible at least on try number one. The students were laughing since they knew I was all excited about this

The thing is, at least you have the excuse of it being your job. I'm only tenuously connected to the life sciences via "keeping people alive in space." For me to perform impromptu dissections on my computer desk is apparently "weird" and "a little creepy." People are no fun.

Yes, and now I have a sci fi/horror movie vision in my brain that now that they're out of the frog, they'll grow and morph and then students begin to mysteriously disappear until you figure out what happened - it was the frog encysted parasite, OMG!, but no one will listen to you until it grows so big from ingesting random students it finds fucking in broom closets that it bursts right out of the science building/wing whatever and chases down the dean and eats him/her. Then the National Guard gets called in and Napalms it and as it shrivels and dies in front of the Administration building in a huge flaming inferno, you stand there and make a statement about man treading where only God should walk or something else lame profound like that, and then, CREDITS!
