was down gram's and looking at the sunday paper at the ads for mattresses and beds (since i desperately need both) and she tells me I could get just any bed because i'm too fat. OMG. One, she's fatter than me by a lot (okay she's 92 and isn't likely to go to the gym but still, talk about the pot calling the kettle black) Two, I am heavy I admit it. But I'm NOT as fat as my family seems to think I am.

My brother and his wife were here picking up his old high school/college photoalbums. She's never seen me thin and saw those photos and it's like WTF happened. That's what I'd like to know. I went to being sent to the doctors for being 'anorexic' to being sent because I'm obese. Sigh.

And she wants to get me a GPS unit for Christmas so I can 'get home faster?' WHY?

I was supposed to go to the casino tonight but it's cold and rainy so we said we'll wait til tomorrow.

*hugs*

If you can afford it, I'd recommend a memory foam mattress. If you have regular back pain at all, it'll help a lot.

thanks.

Yeah actually they had one I could afford easily. I wanted the tempurpedic but that I CANT afford

memory foam and tempurpedic are the same thing. tempurpedic is just the name brand.

nods but there is a difference in how much is used, the amount of 'bubbles' and what have you in the foam. Tempurpedic is a little closer to wound care grade which is what I wanted

Gotcha. Hm...there's a place around here that does factory direct, so you get a discount. Might be worth looking into to see if there's a store like that in your area.

Welcome to the freakshow. *offers seat beside me*

I get the fat comments all the time from people bigger than me so i know how ya feel. I am also a freak for liking things that my family doesn't like.

*huggles*

The memory foam mattresses are really comfortable.

thanks. Yeah it's like yeah I'm big but for the love of god it's not like we need to start reinforcing the floorboards (but I get any bigger and I'll be buying two plane seats which rather disgusts me about myself right now)

yeah I have a memory foam top right now and really with the diabetes that's a very good bed top to have

Next time one of 'em tells you that you're fat, knock 'em down and sit on 'em. Don't let them up until they agree that you're one of the skinniest, most willowy woman to walk the earth.

I'm fat, but thank god my family doesn't rag on me for it. Geesh!

GPS unit for Christmas so I can 'get home faster?'

So it's like what? A teleportation device? I'm pretty sure you know the way home. *eyeroll*

yeah because i might be somehow unaware that I'm fat without them.

I know. She thinks I take the long way home

families are just frakkin' unbelievable. And not always in the good way. :-(

Gah!! [shudders.]

Try the Sealy Posturpedic, in ultra firm. Dude: your back will thank you.

tell me about it

I'll look at Sealy but not firm. I have hypermobile joints and firm mattresses dislocate the joints since they don't give. (that's why i'm a master of relocating body parts, points at toe)

Ugh, nice to know families don't get any nicer the older one gets.

*hug* At least we all suffer them together?

From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
no i swear they get worse because then as you get older you get inlaws dragged into the mess and all sorts of crap. THe difference is by now you're almost immune to it all

thanks

*shudders at the thought*

You know, a mountain hermitage is sounding better and better. I wonder how much those cost.

and they wonder why i want to move back to WI (other than I actually really did love it there)

First, you aren't even close to being as fat as they make out. I have seen pics of you, ones from the past and recent ones as well.

Second, they have absolutely no right to continue being so persistent, aggressive and ugly about your weight. You are a grown woman, and they need to treat you with the same dignity and respect they'd show any stranger off the street.

Third, if it were me, I'd turn it back on'em. Get catty. Tell Grandma that you must have gotten her genes. Tell your Dad "I can lose weight anytime, but you'll always be an asshole.". And say it with a smile :)

yeah I've tried that. mostly it made things worse so I've adopted the 'ignore them' policy

From: [identity profile] 0-mother-0.livejournal.com
I just wish they'd stop, cause it's really hard to ignore comments like that. They seep in and stay with us forever. *hugs*

I swear, sometimes family is immune to sensitivity. I've lost a ton of weight and they STILL make fat jokes at me. It's like, damned if you do, damned if you don't.

i think if it's family they think they can take off the filters and say whatever's in their head

Date: 2007-08-20 02:47 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lejlkwiet.livejournal.com
Sheesh, they have no right to say stuff like that to you. Why is it that the people who are technically supposed to be the nicest to us are always the meanest??

Date: 2007-08-20 03:49 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com
who knows. Like I said to mulzrulz I think it's because they're related to us they think they can take the filters off
