can you hear my wallet whimpering
Sep. 3rd, 2007 04:31 pmSo i called down to the mattress places in Gallipolis which is closer than Chillicothe. They have the same bed for the same price with no 200$ gift perk but free delivery. However when asked do they have any beds the girl on the phone says 'err, some, not much.' in a tone that says, 'are you kidding?' Sweetpea, here's a sales tip, say 'yes we have a small but nice selection.'
So I weight my options and even paying 80$ for delivery Big Sandy's has the edge thanks to the gift card and pretty beds. Then I remember I went past Original Mattress Factory beds on the way from Big Sandy's to the highway so I stop there first.
They have really pretty and relatively inexpensive wrought 'iron' beds and I was wrong about them. They don't just have spring coils, they DO have memory foam. And somehow I feel much more comfortable in this store. She wasn't trying to rush me or shove me into something. I was also reminded of something VERY important, dust mites can't live in foam. I'm ALLERGIC in very big caps according to my allergist to dust mites. So allergies, arthritis, diabetes, sleep apnea, can I really afford to say no to this bed? It's also 300$ cheaper than Big Sandy's. I buy the mattress (has a 15 year guarantee so if my fat butt dents it more than an inch it gets replaced) AND the bed for what that the mattress would have been at Big Sandy's. It's still blindingly expensive but it's mine. I hope it'll help.
So I DO go back to Big Sandy's since mom insists I need an end table and a cofee table. ( I do but I was rather hoping to move then buy them) and since she's willing to help out (i.e. here's your christmas gift) I stopped and looked. HUGE stuff. I mean my god, they're practically dinner tables. They're gorgeous but really meant for a house not an apartment.
And did I mention the day I was sick last week, I melted my kettle to the stove? I must have blanked out from the meds because I came back around when i hear strange 'plinking' noises and then the smoke alarm went off. The water had boiled out and all the red enamel paint melted from the stove welding it to the burner. So I go to the kitchen part of Big Sandy's but they don't do parts. Lowe's accross the street does. (though they tried to sell me one that was already opened and not for my stove, luckily i caught that)
Since I was already hemmoragghing dough I stopped at Hobby Lobby because I want leaf and acorn beads for my green man necklace. (no such luck) They don't even have Halloween stuff out. They're already on to Christmas. It's the first week in Sept. I do NOT want my Christmas tree yet. However they had the silver aluminum ones, yes those old styled ones from the 50's. The so shiny they blind you kind. No I didn't buy it but I did nearly buy the table top PURPLE alunimum one. Have I mentioned I like garish, tacky crap? Well, I do.
now i'm tired, nothing's gotten written (though some porn is suggesting itself) and I just realized I have quizzes to grade (yes I gave a quiz in the first week. I suck like that)

Date: 2007-09-03 08:57 pm (UTC)Their delivery guys were great, bringing everything in, asking where I wanted it put and setting everything up before they left.

Date: 2007-09-03 09:47 pm (UTC)Also, I totally agree with Hobby Lobby. I went to Michaels last week and there was one shelf of Halloween stuff (mostly taken up by the awful, expensive animatronic "ghosts" that swivel and groan when people wall by) and the middle third of the store was filled with Christmas trees and ribbons and things. Too much too soon.
And in the same vein, I went to Starbucks today for a cold drink and they were already pushing the Pumpkin Spice Latte. Labour Day might signal the end of summer, but it's still 35°C outside! Gimme my orange mocha frappucino, and stuff that steaming hot pumpkin spice latte somewhere else.
