Author’s Note – This was written for fire_fiction a charity drive to help someone who recently had her life and the life of her children devastated by a house fire. One of two drabbles written for japan_girl16 for her donation. Thanks to evil_little_dog for suggesting a setting and looking this over


She was grateful for the schooling she had undertaken, leaving her practiced not only in martial arts but in sequestering emotion. Ran Fan took the pain generated by a few simple words and locked it up in her heart. She didn’t need her fearsome mask; her own face served as a facade when she needed it to.

Ran Fan cast a curious glance at Winry. Golden hair, eyes like sky, was that what her prince actually lusted for? The warrior couldn’t help but notice the swell of the mechanic’s chest, her calloused hands straying to her own, feeling the lack.

Did Winry know how many royal girls would literally kill to hear the words ‘be my wife’ pass Ling’s lips? The blonde seemed embarrassed, maybe hoping it was a joke. Ran Fan knew the offer wasn’t quite serious but she also knew Ling too well. She spotted the hints of desire in his words.

If he couldn’t have her, Ling would fantasize about Winry. Did he ever dream about her, Ran Fan wondered? Sometimes she thought Ling might love her as she loved him. Those times the mask cracked and she let her suffering slip.

Ran Fan knew one thing for certain in life, love couldn’t make her royal. A servant she was born, a servant she would die. She would have to do her best to make this life worthwhile to Ling even if that meant she would never be able to tell him she loved him.

aw. yep, i could see ran fan having a thing for ling. (hee, i rhymed). i could even see ling having a thing for ran fan in a way, but their society probably wouldn't even allow them to consider such a thing.

THat's definitely how I see it. Of course now that he's Greed, I'm betting Ling doesn't care about society

Perhaps not, though I suspect that Greed's influence will make him not care much about anyone but himself either. Unless he gets better at controlling Greed, which could be interesting.

most people i know of course are hoping for Ling to get control of his homunculus blood. HoHo seems to show it can be done
