early weekend at the lake

Luckily the otherwise nasty storms left off early Thursday morning and we had a lovely 24 hours at Lake Berlin with Lucky Uncle and his wife who have a lake home there. Well if you call mid-90's lovely. I don't. Thank god for lake water. I hate this weather in so many ways. i never miss winter

Still, it's nice to go swimming in the lake. However it didn't start out well. Dad and Lucky Uncle (LU) went to open up the boat. Dad came back and asked for paper towels and 409. Why? we ask. Because someone forgot duck food on the boat and something went up under the tarp and SHIT everywhere. Huge whopping piles of it. Mom, me and LU's wife are STILL laughing at the men over that one.

Once the men get it scrubbed down we go for the first of the lovely boat rides. I'm the only one foolhardy enough to pitch off into the 60 degree water but I love cold water and I'm not missing my lake swim. However, the ladder off the pontoon boat has a problem, no hand holds and as I was shifting my hand hold from the top of the boat rail to way down on the ladder I lost my grip with my bad hand. One second I'm on the ladder, the next I'm well and truly under the lake. Whee. Didn't get hurt (well there's a bruise but that might be from hauling my ass up, we HAVE to make handholds for that ladder.)

We went out for a night boat ride too and this morning was funny. We were watching the early morning black squirrels playing when the Peregine hawk from the nest right by the house swoops down and lands on the branch with the squirrel. THe hawk is looking lakefront and not at hte tree where the squirrel has flatten himself. The thing moves up the tree like a shadow while the stupid hawk misses an easy meal.

went swimming today then headed for my apartment. I am NEVER allowed to stop at Athens Krogers again. i could drop 1000$ without blinking. Their deli section I've already explained to you. I bought Dolmas, olives with lemon marinade and red curry from Morocco as well as purple Moroccan olives. You know how the vegeterian/organic section of most freezer cases is at best three or four shelves this time it was ALL the way down. A full row. Bulk foods, strange mushrooms like blue foots and just for evil_little_dog and her mom, 40$/pound morels.

Made it home. Nearly hit a goat. My neighbor kept most of my plants and Roy alive BUT the three plants i KNEW I should have not left in someone else's care DID all die (bonsai, orchid and bamboo, sigh). Called parents to let them know I made it back. Told dad about the goat. First words 'well it IS Ohio. Bet it was near your house. Yeah it was.

I was coming around one of the twisty curvy roads that lead to my place and someone's goat had gotten out and there he was on the road just looking around
