According to the weather channel we've been hotter than FLORIDA for days. It's been nealry triple digits and in Ohio, in June that's nearly unheard of. I hate this. You'll never hear me say 'i'm tired of Winter.' Summer yes, winter no.

I literally can't stand heat. It's physiology for me. Boating on Friday, I had to go lay under the canopy because the heat nearly made me puke. The heat-born dishydrotic eczema is back on my feet and fingers, which means as soon as it's hot, my skin goes into over drive and over produces skin which 'bubbles up' cracks and peels so the whole summer my hands hurt from this and I do NOT acclimate. Some of my southern friends told me in when i moved to Florida for a time that I would acclimate.

[livejournal.com profile] evil_little_dog and [livejournal.com profile] silvrethorn will tell you how wrong they were.

I don't know what to do about my garden. I guess I'll be planting by moonlight and watering the living crap out of them. wish me luck

and oh [livejournal.com profile] sapphira_112 wanted people to take this quiz. Sounds about right to me.

Which Major Arcana Tarot Card Are You?
created with QuizFarm.com</td></tr>
<tr><td>You scored as IV - The Emperor

The Emperor represents power. There is nothing subtle about this Tarot card. The Empress has power through love. The Emperor has power through power. He is in control, he is forceful and ambitious. Nothing will stop him. He is a natural leader, having either been born to the role or having disposed of all those who stood in his way. If well aspected in a Tarot spread this card can indicate success. It represents obstacles overcome, goals reached and ambition fulfilled. If badly aspected it can indicate either weakness or an abuse of power.

and I was thinking about getting Hughesnet to get rid of this dial up but a) it's very expensive B) if it sucks as much as satellite tv I'll be pissed c) i notice they don't mention the installation costs and other fees other than i'll get a 200$ rebate d) how long is the commitment and then they give us THIS disclaimer

Stated speeds are not guaranteed. Actual upload speed will likely be lower than speed indicated, during peak hours. Download speeds may also be temporarily slowed in cases when patterns of system usage exceed the download threshold for an extended period of time. All services are subject to the HughesNet Fair Access Policy. If you choose to run VPN over satellite, your data speeds may be reduced by as much as 50-75%. Despite the high speeds, time-sensitive applications, such as multi-player "twitch" games, are also not recommended over HughesNet.

Download Threshold is the volume of data that can be downloaded continuously before the Fair Access Policy may restrict the download speed.

Each email account has 2 GB of storage. The domain of your email addresses will be @Hughes.net. HughesNet email is compatible with any email client that supports Pop3 and SMTP protocols

I don't even KNOW what VPN is but if time sensitive downloads might not work then what the heck do I want you for?

You wouldn't be running VPN. That stands for Virtual Public Network and you use it to connect to an internal system (like for work) where things work as if you are inside that system only (it's more secure than remoting in which just opens a window inside the targeted system). I think that disclaimer is just in there for the people who are working from home and are using VPN to access the office systems.

ah then yes i would be running that on occasion. that's how all my lectures which are privacy protected get online.

Ah! *adds retroactive strike through first line of comment*

Well, in my experience, VPN is ALWAYS crap. Not sure if it's going to matter what your ISP is, from FIOS to dial-up -- VPN is made of crap as far as speed is concerned.

I'll take your word for it. Since I have dial up I don't use it right now but if I had high speed I wouldn't have to keep driving to the damn office...

Anything is better than driving into the office; even crap VPN speeds ;)

I compromised and put up paper over the window in my office. My students know I'll always talk to them so I've had to HIDE from them in order to get any work done

It's hot here, too. My friends and I went to the local Dairy Queen and I swear half the county was there. And some of them were sitting in their cars with the engines running and the A/C on to eat their waffle cones. Philistines. We sat on the cement end-of-parking-spot logs like civilized beings.

The heat-born dishydrotic eczema is back on my feet and fingers, which means as soon as it's hot, my skin goes into over drive and over produces skin which 'bubbles up' cracks and peels so the whole summer my hands hurt from this and I do NOT acclimate.

Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow. Do NOT want. That's altogether too creepily SFnal.

And my tarot card is Death. Hoooo-kay ....

I was tempted by DQ yesterday but resisted.

it's painful if it decides to do it around the finger joints.

Death is a cool card

If your weather is anything like my weather today (95F with a dewpoint of 66F, according to the NWS, ugh), you'll probably have another bout with temptation this evening. Best two falls out of three?

that's my weather but i have to drive 14 miles to get to DQ so I'm probably safe

Ugh, I hate hot weather too. And look where I moved. But the rest of the year makes up for June-August here, so I do my best to hang out in the air conditioning this time of year.

I have eczema that breaks out on my hands too, only I've figured out that it is stress induced. I never had it until I was doing my residency and trying to find an academic job at the same time. My hands started blistering up, then peeling, and it did not look or feel good. Plus, I really don't want to slather my hands with steroid cream given all of the things I then touch. But it cleared up once I left my residency and I haven't had a breakout since. Crazy.

I know nothing about Tarot, but I did your quiz and matched 94% with The High Priestess.

yeah I know what you mean. I did three years in Florida and while I could probably snow bird when I get old I'm hopefully done with living there.

That sounds like dishydrotic eczema which can be stress induced as well. gah, have to go buy more steriods.

the High Priestess is a powerful card

My pet theory is that Masq and I are the same person living in parallel universes. So LJ is kinda like a trans-universal portal. Isn't that cool?

entirely possible. Lots of things at school don't work with Firefox because of how it identifies itself or something. It's why i don't use it.
