There were things yet to be done but he couldn’t be arsed. Giles knew just how close he came to losing his Slayer and so fast. He had met Watchers who have lost a Slayer. Some had taken it hard. Others had treated it like losing a favored watch. He would never understand the latter.

Watching Xander and Willow enthusiastically hug Buffy, Giles felt even more of his energy drain away. He had lied to them, seriously lied and he wasn’t even sure why he had done it. It would have been just as believable to tell them that Watcher training could include a little magic using. What Amy’s mother had done and what she would have gone on doing flung him back a few decades in his mind. Giles had no doubt the things he did with Phillip, Ethan and the others had spawned the lie about that having been his first casting. Buffy couldn’t ever know the things he had done. He wished someone would deadhead that memory from his mind like the rotting spent flower it was.

He let the teens chivvy Buffy out of the school while he stayed behind to erase the evidence of what that woman had been doing. As he left the school himself, finally, Giles knew he should spend some time trying to figure out what the spell had done to her. He didn’t want anything to come back and bite him in the ass but that could wait. Right now, he wanted his music and scotch. He’d earned the reward.

You need an "as" or remove the 'ed' for hugged.
