Figures, I post two ultra depressed posts then I go utterly silent over YIM all night. The people who talk to me nightly are probably wondering.

I'm fine. It got rainy and very foggy. I'm betting someone ran into pole. I had no power from 8 pm until now, 4 AM. You know it's a strange sensation. It gives you a peek into a world gone by. You want to write historical fiction, go rent a cabin for a night out in the woods where there are no neighbors, turn out everything electric. It is so dark so still it's unbelievable and then you hear it: the stuff you miss out on because of the hum of the electronics, the noise of fans, tv and radio. The nightbirds, the crickets, the frogs. I read a book once about how afraid people were of the dark even until the 19th century, but it that fear faded once Edison came up with the electric light and it spread.

Damn, Angelus and Darla would have had some obsidian nights in which to hunt. Stuffy nights. I sure did miss my fan.

okay now that I'm over being startled awake (Yeah I forgot to go and turn OFF the tv and lights after I read by candlelight all night) I'm heading back to bed.

but first LOOK. I have a paper dragon. Thanks guys. keep clicking make them grow up

I was wondering if you were okay since you weren't around this evening.

Still, it sounds nice, the whole dark of night reading by candlelight thing. Also, yay to baby paper dragon!

and their attributes. My last crew was easy. I just knew the fog bound egg would have to do with storms and air, the warm one had to be fire and evil eye just had to be Ed

This crew well probably the stone one willbe named Tarran (he's appalled btw), the little pebble collector after a stone-born monkey and surely paper dragon gets an origami based named

The only problem with power outages is they seem to happen when it's hottest and dampest, and you NEED a fan going! (We're so pampered and spoiled these days - those folks of days gone by dealt without electricity just fine, and today let it be out for a few hours and they talk about people "nearing death" because of the heat... people lived in this valley BEFORE air conditioning and refrigeration...)

The one time we spent a night camping out in an area like yours it was so noisy - frogs and crickets and other, unexplained noises! The desert at night, away from civilization, is silent as the grave, just the occasional hoot or hiss or howl. *g*

The paper dragon is cute!

i know. We are definitely spoiled.

I've never camped in the desert but i hiked it. It was eeriely silent evenin the day. Constrast that to the swamp I lived in in Wisconsin and the frogs were so loud MOm could hear them when she called me.

he IS cute

I'll never forget that night in Missouri. The noise was ASTOUNDING. Even the forests here don't have much noise when the wind's not blowing through the pines (or the elk aren't mating - which can get VERY noisy).

yeah I've heard the elk in SD. I'm very used to noisy woods
