cornerofmadnessHappy meme day 5 (I think). SCHOOL IS OUT. I don't have to work for a month. Yeah teaching rules. In fact seriously am looking into getting a second doctorate to make sure i can keep teaching in the future.
Happy - got out two more resumes to the two schools I didn't think I would send them to. A Catholic college in WI (my coworkers LAUGHED. I guess the hellbound can't work at Catholic school) and I thought I was going to send to the U of WI in Lacross but they wanted OUTSIDE research, hello? What? Branch college? You want me to do what now? SO I sent it to U of WI in SUperior...expensive and cold but oh so beautiful (It'll be like living in Briggs)
Happy - my students delayed me an hour today. Why is that happy? Because I would have been in Jackson with my laundry when the ice storm hit otherwise. I got back here in the rain and in the space of time it tookme to change and strip my bed it was icing like mad. I stayed home nice and safe (But let's hope i can get to my test tomorrow)
Happy - I got my short story collection Many Bloody Returns. A collection of GOOD vampire writers (Jim Butcher, PN Elrod, Charleine Harris, Kelly Armstrong, Tanya Huff and no Meyers (well I did say GOOD). the theme is vampires and birthdays and is dedicated to Joss Whedon
the unhappy...my final exams rarely change much (not enough time) and people usually do very well on the anatomy one...not this time. Somehow reproduction was too much for them. Only two people knew the anatomy of the penis. 12 people in class 9 guys...only one got it right. Sweet. and in my non-majors only one person didn't know where babies develop (yes it was a female)

And what got you into fanfiction to begin with?
My overwhelming love of Han, Luke and Leia. I was ten. It’s 1977 and I had just seen them for my birthday. I was naturally writing the Mary Sue-est of Mary Sue’s. Leave me alone. I was ten. It took me until junior high to realize that there were others out there doing it and I started joining paper zines who did Star Trek, Elfquest and Pern
I see. So what kind of fanfiction do you like to write?
Usually I’m doing angst with a heaping helping of physical pain. Though occasionally I do humor
Do you find writing easy? Hard? What are the aspects of writing you struggle most with?
writing is easy. Plots can be hard. Keeping large numbers of characters working in one scene is nightmarish. I struggle with description. I know why. I used to describe. A lot. Well probably TOO Much. I was in a very bad writers group at the time (they all met in person except us two on the other side of the country and I’d get one independent thought and the rest would be the group leader’s thoughts and he was ugly about it. Best part, told me I’d never make it as a writer. I had my first professional sale that month. Yeah I wasn’t grown up about it either). Anyhow that group wanted minimalist writing and just tore me to shreds on a monthly basis. Naturally I grew to hate description and 12 years down the road I’m still scarred
Write a few sentences or so of your favorite pairing or character.
I’m not sure I’ve ever met anyone who hasn’t screwed with my head. Holtz spent my entire life warping me. Angel tried to force me into his fantasy son, a Notre Dame going little version of him. Funny I sort of am like him…his true self, speaking of which Angelus got inside my brain too. Finally he just totally rewrote me like a bad term paper. Let’s not even getting into Cordelia or Fred pretending to be my friend. She totally got off on tasing me. Lorne, the demon, is probably one of the few who never tried. Go figure. Then there was my Mom…yeah, sucks to be me.
Are there any fanfiction clichés or trends you're sick of or just can't stand?
OOC characters, complete AU’s where we just use the character names and totally change the setting, you know, Buffy and Angel are dancers on stage, Ed and Roy are college kids in L.A. etc, someone pairing up characters that are so obviously not interested just for ‘the pretty’ (be it slash or het)
Are you guilty of any fanfiction clichés you hate? Or any other ones?
I hope I haven’t done too much OOC or done completely unrealistic non-canon ships. I’ve done AU’s but not many that drastic.
What was the first fandom you wrote for, and do you still like/participate in it?
Star Wars, still like it, don’t participate.

From Saiyuki – any combo of Sanzo/Goku/Hakkai/Gojyo really
From NCIS – Abby/McGee
From Dresden Files – Harry/Murphy

I have no freaking clue. Realistic…I hope.
Do you read other people’s fanfic? If so, what do you find yourself reading the most?
my friend’s stuff mostly. I usually stick with pairings I like since so few fanfic writers seem capable of gen fic which, believe it or not, is my preferred reading.
