fma_fic_contest for the prompt Smoke. Okay this was the first time I’ve ever used Lust as a point of view character and gah, do you know how hard it is to whittle off 160 words to make word count. Thanks to
evil_little_dog for the beta.
I won! Whee. see plaque at the end. It's cool
Death, the sable smoke where vanishes the flame – Lord Byron, Childe Harold’s Pilgrimage
Lust had never imagined it would end like this, in pain and fire. Not that she had imagined death or whatever awaited her kind. Had she ever really been alive? In her long memory, now spooling out in front of her, Lust couldn’t remember being other than she was now.
She remembered when the newest Wrath had been created, knew Father had planted a piece of himself in that mortal soil. Had that once been her fate? She supposed it didn’t matter now. The terrible expression on her opponent’s face embodied the sin of wrath far better than her fellow homunculus ever had. He was glorious as the flames danced around him.
Swallowing back a groan, Lust knew she was human enough to feel pain. Her body fought to heal the damage as her skin crackled black, splitting open, her fats rendering until the smoke that choked the basement was perfumed the scent of her cooking flesh. If she screamed and acted human, would he stop long enough for her to slice out his heart and drink from it?
No, she had taken too much from him. His man was dying inside the lab. This magnificent fiend should have died there, too. What made him continue in spite of the agony she saw in his beautiful eyes? The boy in the shell, maybe. The woman, doubtless. Lust had already seen the love that ensnared these two. The woman who emptied her gun into Lust was not just some subordinate. No, she and the alchemist had done things to each other that Lust fully approved of but their relationship soared to a level an inhuman thing like herself could never aspire to.
Lust didn’t want to die but she knew it was too late. She had made a critical mistake in underestimating this man; never imagining he might claw into her to rip out a piece of her with his bare hands?
She had been careless. Maybe she wasn’t human enough to realize a man would scar himself for life, carving an array into his skin just to stop her. Such fire, that burning passion, made her lust for him even as he killed her. He said he’d have her on her knees. If only.
A shiver of fear danced through her. Lust didn’t know what awaited her and the unknown filled her with trepidation. If only she had met this man instead of Havoc. Oh, she could have enjoyed him, made him betray those around him, broken him and readied him for sacrifice. Even as she cursed those eyes she coveted, Lust made one final fruitless stab to pluck those fierce eyes from his head, her body crumbling.
Praises, curses and last wishes spilled from her lips. He would speak of this triumphant, letting her live in his words. His twin black orbs staring at her stirred her namesake within her one last time, his hot gaze following Lust into the unknown, until no conscious thought, no life, was left.
