first off well this just pisses me off
But the real rant here is Chase. Okay I had a Wamu card. It was bought out by chase. SO far I've NOT receieved a single statement from these blithering idiots but I know what I owe. To be sure it was all kosher, I wen to the old wamu site to see where to go to pay. Naturally the site is down for days while they transfer it
So I go back today. I follow the links to the new site. I try to log in. It rolls me over to an enroll with chase site. Chase doesn't acknowledge i HAVE an account. Big shock, right. WHo knew this wouldn't go smooth.
I call them. They tell me that they will NOT waive the pay by phone fee even though this is all their fault by having a system that doens't work. THey transfer me to the internet people in India. This chick can't get that a) I have only one phone line/dial up and my cell is dead so no i can't get on line and b) insists that she can see my profile then c) cuts me off.
I call back. Scream some more. Get back over to internet services. THis guy says there IS no account. I ask then how did the last idiot know the account user name from Wamu. He insists there is NO account but he can register me. He does. Now there's a late fee because i couldn't pay because the goddamn site was DOWN when my payment was due.
time to scream some more
ETA - SPoke to a manager, they refused to waive the fee because I could have paid by phone and I said why the hell should i do that (btw if you pay via the automated phone service it's 10$ but 5$ more if you want a live person to helpyou) when it was THEIR fault I couldn't use my free online service. I told them exactly what I thought of their service.
My problem is I can't honestly cancel the card because I only have three and if somethine should happen. and I DID just cancel Discover. Remember them charging ME seventydollars before they entered the wrong bank info Sigh. Did get something from capitol one yesterday. If they'll transfer me to th eir new card, I'll mail mine back to chase in pieces

Date: 2009-03-15 11:10 pm (UTC)I have a business client who uses one credit card and pays the bill in full every month. Well summer before last I get a call while I am on vacation. They wanted to confirm the account was paid. Seems the two owners had both tried to use their cards to get gas and were declined. I get back the next week and the VP and I call the company and are informed they are over the limit and the account is frozen. Now this company charges about $4000-5000 per month and the limit was $15,000. We are informed the limit is only $5000 and being near the end of the billing cycle they are barely over. But no one can explain why and we are told we will get a letter. The letter arrives telling us that we are over the limit and please make a payment asap. We get fed up and look at the numerous offers in the mail and chose one and apply for a new account. Get a new account with $30,000 limit.
Then we finally get the answer from the old company saying our account was re-evaluated and they chose to reduce the limit based our record. A record of always paying in full and paying immedaitely upon receipt of the bill. Maybe they hated not getting any interest.
We move all the auto charges over and cancel the old cards.
We then get another letter telling us that an error was made for some unknown reason and our credit limit has been restored on the old cards. We again call and tell them too little too late and we have cancelled the account.
Well a year and half later we still get quarterly and annual business summary statements on the account. Each time one of the owners calls and tells them the account is closed and stop. I am tempted to start mailing them back.
Want to to know the offending company? It would be Bank of America. Interesting enough they had just purchased the account from Wachovia about 6 months before they effed it up.
Oh and get this. The owner's house is mortgaged at BoA and she went in to make her house payment about a year ago. She went to the window with her check and a coupon like any normal person. Well a couple weeks later she gets called her payment is late. Seems somehow they applied the payment to the closed "business" credit card account. Luckily they corrected it with no late charges.
Yes as an accountant I have a list of banks I will never use based on a number of client experiences. This is an example why BoA is on the list. Maybe one day I will relate the reasons Centura is also on the list.

Date: 2009-03-16 12:07 am (UTC)BoA is KNOWN for keeping accounts open way after you have closed them, and sending threatening letters, and also for after you pay off balances 'finding' other money that you owe them that you need to pay them as well, or they will by god take you to court and besmirch your good name or whatever. *rolls eyes* I couldnt' get away from those people fast enough.

Date: 2009-03-15 11:58 pm (UTC)I'm 'discussing' my card with Chase right now too... becuase after I had that car accident they jacked my rate up to 29.9% and even after three years of paying on time (only the mins, it's all I can do) they refuse to lower it, so I've asked them for a settlement. It can't be any more damaging to my credit than what Dayton Power and Light will do to it when they start reporting my payment history to credit bureaus. (which I think should be illegal anyway.) The chase card is currently the only card I have active, and as soon as I'm given a settlement amount. I won't have any for a while until I get my house sold and my credit back into some kind of shape. that's just the way it has to be. I have access to an emergency line of credit from my Credit Union. That'll have to do.
Clark Howard recommends that you have two credit cards. That you not keep balances on either, (i.e. pay off the full balance every month) and that you never ever use your credit cards for lifestyle purchases. That was what I was doing until my accident. Then for three months I pretty much had to live off my two cards. US bank is working with me on payments... they offered me a hardship settlement, and I said that I though I could make payments if they worked with me on it. THey did, they gave me a payment I could manage, and dropped the interest rate so that I still make progress paying off the debt. That card is inactive. The chase card is still active and in order to make the minimum payments, I have to pay the card and then use the card to pay Dayton Power and Light, Internet, Cell Minutes, Vectren and Water bills. and Power and Light and Vectren both charge $5 for the privilage because they are so behind the times that they have Western Union handle their payments instead of having an online payment system that they manage themselves.
Anyway, I wouldn't worry so much about going down to two cards. Get rid of one, and then work your balances down to zero so that you have them card available 'if something happens' like what happened to me. I don't know what I would have done if I hadn't had them.. but I almost wish I hadn't. It's been more trouble than it's worth.

Date: 2009-03-16 01:25 am (UTC)my cards are too low to have just two given that I just had to come up with 2 grand in two months for medicine.
You can't function in today's society without them. You can't rent a car for example so yeah gotta keep at least one
