and now I need YOUR help. Machiavelli Moon has made it into the first round at the Amazon breakthrough novel.

For those who haven't heard me babbling enough about Machiavelli Moon, it's an urban fantasy set in Deadwood South Dakota, written during the year and the year after I lived and worked in South Dakota (mostly in Hot Springs and Pine Ridge Reservation, I DID get to fulfill one of my life ambitions with that one). Basic rundown, Maddelena, a very old vampire runs a hotel casino there and is friends with the local werewolf pack. Both vampires and werewolves are out in the open. Maddie is into politics and a visit from another old vampire, friend and Praetor ends with murder.
This is a you vote for me (or for any of the novels you see at the main contest) sort of a deal. So if you go, read it, like it, please do vote for me. If you get there and find someone you like better, well then, vote for them. I'll understand.

mjules c&p'ed the two reviews I got and I thought I'd share them (THANKS!)
I once spent an entertaining day in Deadwood, South Dakota during the annual Sturgis motorcycle rally. However, if it had been filled with vampires and werewolves I probably would've fled on my Hog long before sunset. But then again, I might have enjoyed a drink at the Silvermoon Hotel's bar, capably run even during daylight by savvy vampire Maddelena. Maddelena's old enough so the sun doesn't bother her, and she has hundreds of years' experience owning and operating quality establishments. She's a strong-willed and solid citizen of an altered Deadwood, in a world where human and non-human histories have long intertwined (for example, vampires and werewolves served in Vietnam).
This book is stalking Underworld and Twilight fans, and it should be a welcome addition to their undead ranks. I'm a fan of both the supernatural and alternate history genres, and it's nice to see them merged. I'd certainly like to follow the saga of Maddelena and her cohorts to see how events transpire. Although the sensual aspects of the story appear to be geared more toward female readers, I still want to sink my claws into the final product. The characters are intriguing, their dialogue flows, and events transpire within a reasonably constructed world where the normal and paranormal coexist.
In all fairness, being female, I'm sure I do appeal more to women but hey these are both wonderful. I'm pleased
ETA 2 - okay so the link Amazon gave out to the other entries doesn't appear to be working. Nor can you vote with that's here. SIgh. I've asked a few of my veteran friends how this all works and I'll make another post.
But for now I'm on my way to PA

Date: 2009-03-17 06:44 pm (UTC)If we need to leave a review, can I just ask how much of it you submitted? Was it the same first three chapters you posted to read on your LJ? Because I tried to download it from Amazon but apparently I'm not in the right geographical area to be allowed to download it from them.
And congrats on making it this far!!! Wishing you good luck with the next stages of the competition :)
