My steampunk story is still 800 words too long to fit the ideal. i THINK you can send in anything up to 10K but with the caveat your changes suck. Well hell they already do. If I remove more it won't make a lick of sense.

And this hit kinda hard. I got an email from a college back in Pittsburgh that I applied to...didn't even make the first cut. I mean, i KNEW that. It's been months but it still is mindboggling that I can't even make it to a phone interview. I did BETTER when I had no experience. I don't get it. Now that I have a list of accomplishments in the teaching field I have LESS interest in me than when I had zero experience. What the hell am I doing wrong?

You're not doing anything wrong. The problem is that the costs of malpractice insurance have resulted in a LOT of drs. entering the teaching field and leaving private practice. Coupled with that phenomenon, many colleges/universities are strapped with state budgets that are, at best, narrow.
