Why you don't want to be me part 2
Sep. 20th, 2004 10:45 am
Last night I started feeling yucky around 2 AM. At 5 AM I woke up shaking and thinking you might want to get up NOW. Of course my stomach's just nauseated enough to be miserable and audible a county away with all the grumbling but it doesn't want to get sick. That's when you start thinking if I just make myself sick I'll feel better. Instead I trundle back to bed and it is spinning like I had been to a kegger. Fine. The Cosmos hates me. Either I was right and that chicken was funny (but it had no reason to be. It never sat out) or I have the flu.
The mom calls way before my alarm (because why would I want sleep) to tell me that the plane tickets to FL which were only 200$ about 2 weeks ago when Evil Little Dog mentioned she might sell the house are now FOUR hundred dollars. That's a month's salary. Hear me sobbing? Yeah, I just bet you do. I didn't buy them earlier because well ELD wasn't sure what she was doing and I wasnt' going to FL twice if I didn't have to. Now I have to.
And I can't even take today off. There's no one to cover class. We're already behind and we're trying to leave the sonic bomb on for hours to scare out that raccoon. I can't be here when that happens. I might as well just go to class and get sick on them. I should go touch the obnoxious students just in case it is the flu and not food poisoning. This is not a way to start the week.

Here's hoping it's not the flu (cuz that sticks around ewww) and just bad chicken.

Date: 2004-09-20 09:00 am (UTC)It'll get better. You should stay home though, the students can live without you for one day while you rest up.

Date: 2004-09-20 09:41 am (UTC)I took a couple days off because my body forced me to, *and* because I went and got myself a 9-to-5 job with sick days I can actually take. When I was a Prof, I would have dragged myself into school because there was no one to take over my classes otherwise. Anyone remotely qualified would have had classes of their own.
*sigh*

Date: 2004-09-20 11:29 am (UTC)Plus, compared to all those years of school, this job makes me feel like a slacker (less work!) and so taking a "day off" just brings out all that Protestant work-ethic/laziness guilt/paranoia thing.

Date: 2004-09-20 06:57 pm (UTC)and I am sooo glad you aren't my prof. Because I'd be scared you would touch me to transmit the flu...
Get better soon. And that sucks about the tickets to Florida.
