Last night I started feeling yucky around 2 AM. At 5 AM I woke up shaking and thinking you might want to get up NOW.  Of course my stomach's just nauseated enough to be miserable and audible a county away with all the grumbling but it doesn't want to get sick. That's when you start thinking if I just make myself sick I'll feel better. Instead I trundle back to bed and it is spinning like I had been to a kegger. Fine. The Cosmos hates me. Either I was right and that chicken was funny (but it had no reason to be. It never sat out) or I have the flu.
The mom calls way before my alarm (because why would I want sleep) to tell me that the plane tickets to FL which were only 200$ about 2 weeks ago when Evil Little Dog mentioned she might sell the house are now FOUR hundred dollars. That's a month's salary. Hear me sobbing? Yeah, I just bet you do. I didn't buy them earlier because well ELD wasn't sure what she was doing and I wasnt' going to FL twice if I didn't have to. Now I have to.
And I can't even take today off. There's no one to cover class. We're already behind and we're trying to leave the sonic bomb on for hours to scare out that raccoon. I can't be here when that happens. I might as well just go to class and get sick on them. I should go touch the obnoxious students just in case it is the flu and not food poisoning. This is not a way to start the week.

:( Sending you big hugs and good thoughts your way.

And why is it mothers have this idea that you don't have to sleep. And to wake up to that kind of news too :(

Here's hoping it's not the flu (cuz that sticks around ewww) and just bad chicken.

I'm feeling better, a little so I'm thinking it was the chicken...

Mom keeps forgetting I'm now in a differnt time zone. She's blonde...

And THANKS.

THANKS. I'm starting to feel better so I'm thinking it was the chicken...maybe it was bad when I bought it.

It'll get better. You should stay home though, the students can live without you for one day while you rest up.

I generally dont' take days off no matter how bad I feel unless it's contagious.

You're a stronger woman than I am. If I stub my toe I stay home.. possibly because I love my bed so much. Heh.

I just hate taking sick days. I don't know why.

That sounds like the same, "Is it food poisoning or the flu?" weirdness I was experiencing last week.

I took a couple days off because my body forced me to, *and* because I went and got myself a 9-to-5 job with sick days I can actually take. When I was a Prof, I would have dragged myself into school because there was no one to take over my classes otherwise. Anyone remotely qualified would have had classes of their own.

*sigh*

Yep that's the situation I'm in. I have to pretty much go. THen again I'm lousy at taking sick days unless I'e got something I know is contagious

Actually taking sick days when I need to is a skill I've had to learn. It's hard to unlearn the grad school/professor thing where it's just *too* darn vital that I be there, so drag myself in thing.

Plus, compared to all those years of school, this job makes me feel like a slacker (less work!) and so taking a "day off" just brings out all that Protestant work-ethic/laziness guilt/paranoia thing.

I hear you. Believe me being a doctor primed me for being a teacher. No sick days there either unless I was on the verge of death which did happen twice. Horrible pneumonia in 96 and some kind of hideous stomach 'flu' that killed dozens of my patients as it swept through central WI in 99

Surely they have rules about doctors coming into work when they have contagious diseases... like, you know, *before* said doctor is on "the verge of death"?

yes, if it's contagious you're out. MOstly I get sick with non-contagious stuff. BUt yes, the pneumonia and the flu thing I was no where near patients for a few weeks and they're the ones who gave it to me. Seriously,I did geriatrics so I had to be darn sure what I had wasnt' contagious because it would shuffle a few of them off that much faster

**hugs**

and I am sooo glad you aren't my prof. Because I'd be scared you would touch me to transmit the flu...

Get better soon. And that sucks about the tickets to Florida.

Thanks. I really think it was either the chicken or the week old lunch meat I took a gamble with...not feeling much better but I touched the students I don't like just in case.

LOL... it's always better to be safe than sorry. I really hope it's not food posioning. I know when my mum got it from some seafood, she was sick for a quite some time.

I tend to get food poisoning from time to time. I had to go to my medical school interview with it,and it was REAL bad since it totally closed down the government research facility I worked at

AH ok... I was worried that you were just prone to them.

I thankfully have a really keen sense of smell, so anything that even smells slightly off to me, well I won't touch it.

I do too. First thing I said last night on the phone to my mom, I think this chicken smells funny...but I was too lazy to make a different dinner.

Ok that's just bad. Then again I am paranoid when it comes to food smelling off.

I hope you get better though.

I usually am too but I was tired and there's nothing but bar food around here so I took the gamble. I feel a little better today
