other than they're both crazy.

Roy - I know you don't like Frontline. I would be more convinced it burned your skin if you didn't start screaming before I even put it on. Making me chase you through the house to finish it means I'll just be sure to get every drop out. Kyo, thank you for lying there like you were dead when I did yours

Roy - tripping me in the gravel parking lot isn't the way to get even

Kyo - tripping me in the living room will not get you outside any faster

but the 'something wrong' is this:

Roy is acting more and more like he's afraid I'll hit him.I'm not sure why. I don't do that. As far as I can tell Van (the neighbor who watches him) doesn't do it). I'm wondering if it's the medicine for his ears that I was given for him. It could be that his ears hurt and that's why he ducks away when you reach for him.

Kyo's problem is he has nightmares. LIke this morning he had a flailing screaming nightmare where he cries and cries in his sleep, all of his limbs whipping around. Even at the best of times he moans and fusses in his sleep. I did find out the whole truth from my landlord, Kyo was one of NINETEEN cats crammed into that apartment and left to shit and piss whereever they wanted.

Kyo is getting belligerent about his needs too. Though ignoring his every demand does work (such as NOT playing the game where we run in and out of the house 100 times in 10 minutes)

Your kitties are both extremely lucky and they both know it, too. They are just being cats.

they really are lucky. Life could have gone much worse for them.

That said, they're still insane

They had traumatic kittenhoods!

My older kitty is insane, too. Like a crazy old lady who howls night and day. Plus, she's always been a paranoid schitzo who makes all my houseguests feel like ax-murderers.

But she had a traumatic kittenhood, too.

Aw, poor Roy. I bet it's all the medication that he's fearing. That or the general I'm-a-cat-and-I-hate-being-messed-with-like-that attitude.

Poor Roy. I hope it is his ears and not that some neighborhood kid is beating on him. This is why I keep Dickens indoors (that and because he has no outdoor smarts whatsoever). Does he have an ear infection or pressure in his ears?

Poor little Kyo! He has kitty PTSD. Does it help if you say comforting things to him when he sleeps?

Cats? Belligerent about their needs? Gee, THAT never happens around HERE... ;-P

aactually yeah, if he sleeps on me, he's okay, poor little kitty.

of course poor kitty was licking the toilet so...

[livejournal.com profile] rahirah and [livejournal.com profile] wildrider's cat Silhouette has a "wet ear" due to an inoperable (but benign) tumor in the ear. Has your vet looked deep into Roy's ears?

no and I'm going to make her since my last cat had that and I had to have that one operated on TWICE. One was very deep into his ears and nose. My parents always said the vet removed Iktomi's brain instead of the tumor (well he was a bit...uh eccentric)

Good question. It might not because if it did Annie wouldn't let us force her at all. She's quite the powerhouse when she's really desperate.

Your cats sound like they both need therapy!

I feel pretty lucky with Lupin. He does bug me a lot for food, since the diabetes gives him an increased appetite, but other than that he's pretty good.

i think it really has to do with his bad ears.

but yeah, insane, both of them

Date: 2009-06-07 12:31 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ishte.livejournal.com
If Roy's ears are irritated, he may just not like having them messed with, and of course since you have to mess with them to put the meds in, he may be assuming that any time you reach for him even to pet him, that you're going to mess with his ears. That may be the reason he is ducking his head. Frodo was like that sometimes because of his ear problems as a youngster. He eventually healed and grew out of that.

Maybe while he's on the meds, it might help to just be careful that when you're petting him, you don't pet his head any, then once he's off the meds see how he tolerates a gradual return to head rubs which most cats like, making sure you stay away from his ears at first until you're sure he'll tolerate it okay.

yeah i'm pretty sure that IS ROy's problem. His ears were bleeding. He's going back to the vet. The medicine is supposed to be for life. I'm not sure i liked that answer
