working my way through Cyteen right now.

What made you lose your interest in SF?

too much hard core science with a loss of character driven plots, too much cyber punk and too much unbelievable military SF.

Just picked up a mystery/SF combo hoping to spark something... so far I think i chose badly

Ooh, the last one I read was Jonathan Strange. I'm more current in the field than I thought.

Nods. I fazed out in the 90's when hard core science, cyberpunk and military SF dominated the field. Even though i tried writing the last o ne there, none of these really did it for me

The Wiki says Hugos are for both sci-fi and fantasy. Ditto Nebulas.

Wow, I've hardly read ANY of these. I suck.

On the other hand, Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell is one of my favorite books of all time, so maybe I just prefer the fantasy (and I've read all the Vorkosigan books on the list -- I didn't realize so many of them had won the Hugo).

Just read Barrayar. I promise, you won't be able to stop (I've not met a single person yet who was able to).

It was a slow builder, but WOW, what a story. It knocked my socks off.
