My weekend
Jul. 12th, 2009 12:32 pmIt was a long fun one. I wasn't online since thursday so if there is anything you want me to see, a post important to you, a story etc, THIS is the place to point it out to me.
We had a fun weekend.
evil_little_dog got here Thursday late, so pretty much the activities were picking up a few things I forgot at Wallyworld and going for pizza. She did give me my birthday gift (and part of my Christmas gift but that shall remain wrapped until then). She got me a really cool black and red glass wind chime made by someone she knows and a mondo cool Flame Alchemist battle card set which has one really nice picture of Roy but it won’t be scannable. Her mom sent along a nifty dragon and she handed me over some incense from
ishte, fizzypop. I have to admit that is the oddest incense scent I’ve ever heard of. I’m burning it now. Thanks ladies.
Friday after much dillydallying around we went hiking in Hocking Hills. Okay mostly we just drove. A LOT. There isn’t really a direct route there but it gave Maggie the Magellan a good GPS work out (she did fine out there, it was when she hit Athens she messed but luckily I know how to fix that). We only did the Cedar Falls hike because a) got a late start b) it was HOT even
evil_little_dog thought so. The hike was nice. Got to see some snapping turtles and there was just a little water in the falls. Got some horrible pictures of two sweaty women too. (probably put those up tomorrow).
We did debate going on the other short half mile hike but decided to just go to Athens. I showed
evil_little_dog around the spiritualist town and she liked it as much as I did. (Still thinking of moving there) We poked around two of the five cemeteries that make up the pentacle then we went to the Donkey bar (the coffeehouse I hang out in) and got less than stellar serve. Also hit the comic book store between the Donkey and the Salaam where we went for dinner, a Moroccan restaurant. I got the chicken b’eestya which I only mention because it’s so weird, a phyllo wrapped (like a giant square burrito) dish of chicken almonds and eggs dusted very very liberally with cinnamon. We also hit Lowes so I could get my stone and
evil_little_dog is of NO help. With her encouragement I came how with like 10 more plants. I now need a second garden….
Saturday we went to Columbus with the intentions of going to Greenlawn cemetery (filled with fantastic Victorian era and art deco stuff) and to the Franklin Conservatory to see the butterflies. Well it POURED. I mean total deluge. So we just went to the conservatory which I felt bad for the Indian couple using it for their wedding due to the rain. (The bride’s wedding sari was beyond gorgeous). I had no idea that many people would be there. Apparently ALL of Columbus goes to see flowers if it rains on a weekend. So even though we got there in time for the butterfly release it was so crowed we didn’t get through the crowds fast enough to see that event. There were still butterflies to be had but the real fun thing was they had a Chihuly display. His work was EVERYWHERE. Yes, I’ll post pictures, hopefully tomorrow.
We ended up at Whole Food Market looking for a meal but the food looked a tad long-sitting and quite expensive. Did buy some good cheese and beer singles. There was an ostrich egg that was sorely tempting. After dinner we naturally hit borders where I got a fetish book covered in neoprene for 2.99 in the bargain bin and I was shocked it was even in the store unwrapped due to the explicit nature. I got a few manga naturally, including a yaoi vampire thing (unusual thing for me to buy) that had art so pretty I had to get it and it looks like it has a plot (also unusual thing for yaoi…)
evil_little_dog is on her way home now. At least we also got some story stuff bantered about (good for the muse, I tell you) and I did get to give her a good chunk of that shared universe she started about 15 years ago. (She lost the back issues in her move a few years back and I just found mine). I did get some of the plants replanted before it got too hot. I do have too many plants for my garden so I think I’ll stay with my original plan and take the irises
evil_little_dog gave me and plant them at mom’s and when I get somewhere I have more space I can just take their offspring since Irises WILL make them.
Roy and Kyo were on their best and worst behaviors, showing off for
evil_little_dog. Kyo is almost fully recovered from his upper resp. infection. In the midst of all this, Grandma ended up in the hospital with congestive heart failure (her own fault, she won’t take her water pills). She’ll be home tomorrow. She can’t keep doing this or she isn’t going to come home some day.
Also my neighbor told me he did get the wireless broadband. It’s twice what I’m paying. I’m going to knock on his door this week and get the particulars. Twice what I’m paying is WORTH it for something faster than this. From talking to you guys, it doesn’t sound like its download limits will be that bad since I don’t really do much of that. And happily my body waited until we were home last night to start with the cramps.
