A little while ago I got my letter saying to renew my license plate. And i did.

Today I got one saying I did not renew my driver's license. WTF? They didn't send me any notification about my license expiring. I have no BILL to pay for it. Nothing.

Granted I can go up monday and do this without penalty but never in my life has my license EXPIRED then again this is the first time I've lived anywhere for 4 years since 1993. Still, how many of us check our license routinely to see if they're expiring? Where was the notice? The Bill?

God OH you suck so hard in so many ways.

I don't have a license yet but i have a permit and i always get a new one the year before it expires and no they don't send out notices at least not in New York they just assume you should know this why is beyond me. Do you know that half of these drivers are riding around with expired licenses. (You'd be very surprised.)

But hope all's well ends well.

I got all paranoid about checking my dl expiration date about once every three months (y halo thar, paranoia!) after I let it lapse for like, eighteen months! Luckily, the very nice guy at the DMV just kinda went "lemme renew that for you...".

Erm... you expected a bill? A letter from the state to tell you your driver's license was expiring? *blink* And that means something is wrong with Ohio? Seriously, I don't think ANY state sends out a letter to tell you your license is expiring, and you can't just pay a bill and have it renewed, you have to go to the BMV and get a new card with an updated picture anyway.

I have to do this in November and it certainly is much easier than in Missouri where I had to stand in line for ever and then have them tell me that it is unacceptable for me to have barrettes in my hair and when I asked them if they intentionally wanted the picture to look different from how I normally looked, they said (get this) "They won't show up anyway"... like somehow if I wore barrettes the camera would erase them and make it look like my hair was down in my face anyway.

My point here is this is not Ohio's fault. Ohio is the 7th largest state in the country by population despite being tiny in comparison to some of the 6 bigger states. They send out notifications about tags because you don't have to DO anything other than pay, so it's in their interest as well to send notifications. Since you'd have to go down there anyway, it is a waste of money to send you a reminder when the expiration date is clearly marked on your license anyway. *shrug* usually my bank or someone I've had to show my ID to at some point will point out to me that it's near expiration. Generally speaking, i at least know when I'm in the YEAR that it will expire even if I forget to renew it when it's actually time. I don't blame Ohio if I forget.

*shrug* well be that as it may. In Ohio, we don't send out a notice for driver's licenses and we don't think that's weird. I thought it was weird that Missouri didn't want my photo to look like me or that they thought the camera would somehow erase my barrets, or that the barrets would somehow mess up the picture. That said, I am very sorry that you hate my home. I really wish you could find more good in it.

really? That is cool. Not cool enough to make me move to AZ but yeah most states are 4 years.

I think the last time I was tested and got the new license was 1995; I had to update it a few years ago, though, because I was no longer the 245+ I had been when the picture was taken...
